Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Fe\u0301lix Tshisekedi, is already in the province of Benguela, where this morning he will participate in the ceremony for the transfer of the concession of rail services and logistics to support the Lobito Corridor.<\/b><\/p>\n

The act takes place in the railway port city of Lobito and will also be witnessed by their Angolan and Zambian counterparts, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o and Hakainde Hichilema, respectively, countries linked to the Lobito Corridor project.<\/p>\n

Upon his arrival at Catumbela airport, President Fe\u0301lix Tshisekedi was welcomed by the provincial governor, Lui\u0301s Nunes, and members of the Executive.<\/p>\n

According to the activity program during the ceremony the three Presidents should make declarations.<\/p>\n

Also included in the transfer notice for the concession of rail and logistics services to support the Lobito Corridor to the Lobito Atlantic Railway consortium is the inauguration of the fiber optic link between Angola and Zambia, via video call.<\/p>\n

The Lobito Atlantic Railway consortium is made up of the companies Trafigura, Vecturis and Mota Engil, considered the winner of the international tender on November 4, 2022.<\/p>\n

He will be responsible for transporting heavy loads as well as maintaining the infrastructure of the Benguela Railway (CFB).<\/p>\n

For its part, the CFB will be responsible for transporting passengers and lighter loads.<\/p>\n

The Lobito Corridor extends from the port of Lobito, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, and crosses Angola from West to East, passing through the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Bie\u0301 and Moxico.<\/p>\n

It covers the mining areas of Katanga province in the DRC and Copperbelt in Zambia.<\/p>\n

The corridor represents the shortest route to a port from the mineral-rich areas of DRC and Zambia.<\/p>\n

For the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the corridor is seen as an important means of development in the region, with benefits for Angola and neighboring countries (DRC and Zambia).<\/p>\n
