Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Ma\u0301rio Oliveira, considered, this Tuesday, in Lobito (Benguela), “an important milestone” the fiber optic terrestrial connection between Angola, Zambia and DRC, for the economic development of these countries.<\/b><\/p>\n

The official was speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the connection, via video call, with his counterparts from Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), an act witnessed by the Heads of State of the three countries, namely, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, Hakainde Hichilema and Fe\u0301lix Tshisekedi .<\/p>\n

Ma\u0301rio Oliveira stated that the fiber optic connection will allow for a significant improvement in the communication system between the respective countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith this connection, we are making a great contribution to regional integration, within the scope of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the African continent in general\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, Zambia and the DRC are able to carry telecommunications traffic via the submarine cables that dock in Luanda (Angola) and, through them, connect with the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

In the same vein, Ma\u0301rio Oliveira emphasized that, with this connection, the economies of the three countries will be able to take significant steps towards growth, which will contribute to the well-being of their peoples.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis connection will reinforce communications and integration at the regional level\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

The terrestrial fiber connection with the DRC is ensured by the operators Angola Telecom and Liquid DRC, through two point-to-point circuits, connecting Luanda and Kinshasa, over a length of 1,150 kilometers (km) with a capacity of 40Gbps, and by Luanda to Cabinda (via the commune of Noqui – province of Zaire), allowing access to voice and data services to national and foreign users.<\/p>\n

The expansion plan for the terrestrial fiber optic network plans to reach optical channels of up to 100Gbps each.<\/p>\n

The connection between Angola and Zambia is ensured by the operators Unitel and MTN, in a point-to-point connection with the border of Zambia, in the Karipande area (Moxico) to the PoP station of the company Angola Cables in Luanda, with a length of approximately 2,000 km.<\/p>\n

The network is a DWDM system with 10Gbps optical (OCh) channels.<\/p>\n

The completion of these connections is a historic moment for the three countries, especially for SADC, as it allows countries bordering Zambia and the DRC to have regular access to communications and electronics services via Angola.<\/p>\n
