Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Public Water Company (EPAL) this Thursday deactivated 16 clandestine connections to the public water distribution network, in three districts of Kilamaba Kiaxi municipality, in Luanda.<\/b><\/p>\n

These are the neighborhoods 28 de Agosto, with two connections, Maria Euge\u0302nia Neto with three and finally, Calemba 2 (Castrol), where 11 connections were deactivated, making a total of 16 inactive actions.<\/p>\n

The action, coordinated by EPAL with the support of the Criminal Investigation Services (SIC), is part of the program to combat mining, which plans to cover several areas of Luanda where the practice still exists.<\/p>\n

The Director of EPAL’s Institutional Communication Office, Vladimir Bernardo, said that the mining was carried out from a transport conduit that feeds the water distribution centers of the Nova Vida project and the municipality of Talatona.<\/p>\n

He explained that the households covered carried out the practice of filling tank trucks on a daily basis, causing enormous damage to EPAL and that some materials used in the mining such as motor pumps, hoses and tank trucks were seized.<\/p>\n

He stated that with that practice, the water does not conveniently reach the center, creating an imbalance and a reduction in the capacity to serve adjacent neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

“Water mining is a crime punishable by law and EPAL will continue to work with the authorities to combat these practices that harm public property”, he said.<\/p>\n

According to the official, in order to better assist the population, the construction of two water distribution projects is under way, having explained that at the moment a survey could be carried out to identify points to be used in supplying the population.<\/p>\n
