Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola defended the intensification of the exchange of information between the Defense and Security Forces of member countries of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), with a view to creating conditions of lasting peace and stability in the region.<\/b><\/p>\n

Angola’s position was expressed by the holder of the National Defense and Veterans of the Fatherland portfolio, Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos, at the closing of the Ordinary Meeting of the Committee of Defense Ministers of the CIRGL, which took place in Luanda.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Angolan official underlined that the creation of conditions of lasting peace and stability in the region will be a facilitating factor for the people’s lives in the exercise of their socially useful activities.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Ernesto dos Santos appealed, in his intervention, to the culture of dialogue and negotiation, as models of conflict resolution.<\/p>\n

Based on the aforementioned model, he said that it was the duty of the Defense and Security Forces of the CIRGL member countries to carry out actions that could demonstrate what the region stands for in bilateral and multilateral forums.<\/p>\n

Aspects linked to the pacification and stabilization of the Great Lakes Region dominated the Ordinary Meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Defense of the CIRGL, which ended on Friday.<\/p>\n

The session also discussed, among other documents, the report of the Chiefs of Staff, the technical agreement between the Joint Ad-Hoc Verification Mechanism and the report of the Regional Coordination Committee.<\/p>\n

The meeting reviewed the security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), situation in Burundi, Sudan, Central African Republic (CAR) and South Sudan.<\/p>\n

Preceded by the forum of the Chiefs of the General Staff, held on Wednesday, the meeting of ministers took place at a time when some countries of the CIRGL are devastated by conflicts, whose negative impact affects thousands of people, causing countless displaced people, refugees and deaths.<\/p>\n

Angola assumes the rotating presidency of CIRGL, an organization that also includes Burundi, DRC, Central African Republic, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n
