Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Zambian President, Hakainde Hichilema, last Friday in Accra, capital of Ghana, reaffirmed his intention to reinforce cooperation in the commercial sector between Angola and Zambia.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking during a courtesy meeting with the Angolan ambassador to Ghana, Joa\u0303o Baptista Domingos Quiosa, the Zambian statesman also reaffirmed his pleasure with the inauguration of the Lobito Corridor, as it will bring great benefit to both countries.<\/p>\n

According to a note from the Angolan diplomatic representation in Ghana, which reached this Saturday, the Head of State of Zambia participated, on Friday night, in an official dinner offered by his Ghanaian counterpart as part of his official visit to this country.<\/p>\n

The official ceremony for transferring the concession of rail services and the corridor’s support logistics to the “Lobito Atlantic Railway” consortium, formed by Trafigura from Switzerland, Mota-Engil from Portugal and Vecturis SA from Belgium, took place last Tuesday. fair (4) and was witnessed by the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and his counterparts from the Republics of the DRC, Fe\u0301lix Tchisekedi, and Zambia, Akainde Hichilema, respectively.<\/p>\n

The Lobito Corridor extends from the port of Lobito, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, and crosses Angola from West to East, passing through the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Bie\u0301 and Moxico.<\/p>\n

It covers the mining areas of Katanga province in the DRC and Copperbelt in Zambia.<\/p>\n

The corridor represents the shortest route to a port from the mineral-rich areas of the DRC and Zambia.<\/p>\n

Angola and Zambia Cooperation<\/p>\n

Bilateral relations between Angola and Zambia date back more than 40 years, with the signing of the first economic, scientific and technical cooperation agreement in 1979.<\/p>\n

As part of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, in January 2023, Angola and Zambia signed six legal instruments, with emphasis on the construction of sections of border connections Jimbe (Angola)\/Mwinulunga\/Mapelenga\/Sikongo (Zambia)”, routes that aim to facilitate the movement of people and products from both countries.<\/p>\n
