Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>1,259 taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers from Cunene province have already collected their gasoline subsidy cards from municipal administrations.<\/b><\/p>\n

With the cards, this class of professionals will be able to pay only 160 kwanzas (Kz) per liter of gasoline, as opposed to the 300 provided by law.<\/p>\n

In general, Cunene province has received, since 13 June this year, 1,809 cards, 1,715 for motorcycle taxi drivers, 21 for collective taxis and 73 for non-conventional taxis.<\/p>\n

Of the cards handed out, 1,218 benefited motorcycle taxi drivers, 12 collective taxis and 29 non-conventional taxis.<\/p>\n

At this point, 550 cards are yet to be collected, 308 in the municipality of Cuanhama, 82 in Namacunde, 75 in Ombadja, 52 in Cuvelai and 33 in Cahama.<\/p>\n

The information was provided Tuesday, by the director of the Provincial Office for Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility in Cunene, Geraldina Paredes, stressing that of the total number of cards received, 20 were duplicates.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the official explained that at the administration level, 1,335 licenses were issued and distributed to taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers.<\/p>\n

He encouraged operators to avoid changing the price of the taxi ride, as everyone will receive subsidy cards, provided they are properly licensed.<\/p>\n

Geraldina Paredes said that her office currently controls 154 licensed taxis in Cuanhama, Namacunde, Ombadja, Cuvelai and Cahama<\/p>\n

In the province, three 1,173 vehicles providing taxi services, out of the 10,000 controlled, were registered in these five municipalities.<\/p>\n

The Government recently announced the gradual withdrawal of gasoline subsidies in Angola, in force from the 2nd of this month, with the price of this oil derivative rising from 160 to 300 kwanzas\/litre.<\/p>\n

The new price of gasoline does not cover taxis and motorcycle taxis, as well as the productive sector (agriculture, fisheries, industry, among other areas), which will continue to benefit from the State subsidy.<\/p>\n
