Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The member states of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) highlighted, in New York, the need to imprint greater dynamics on the group’s activities within the framework of the United Nations (UN).<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a note from the Permanent Mission of Angola to the United Nations, this fact was highlighted by the permanent representatives of the CPLP countries accredited to this international body, during a consultation meeting held this Friday (14).<\/p>\n

The meeting, chaired by the Angolan ambassador Francisco Jose\u0301 Cruz, served to, among other issues, deal with the preparations for the celebration of the day of the CPLP, to be marked on the 17th of the current month.<\/p>\n

Addressing those present, the permanent representative of Angola referred that consultation, at CPLP level, should be permanent and consist of holding meetings, consultations and joint actions in defense of the group’s common interests and values.<\/p>\n

He also stressed the need to coordinate positions and strengthen the intervention and influence of its Member States in United Nations deliberations and decisions.<\/p>\n

In this sense, it listed as main areas of intervention the promotion of peace and security, the defense of human rights, sustainable development, the dissemination of multilingualism and cultural diversity, the democratization of international relations and multilateralism, among others.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Francisco Jose\u0301 da Cruz underlined that the CPLP Group should be a mechanism to strengthen cooperation between its Member States, namely in the promotion of the Portuguese language and its interests in the United Nations.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by the ambassadors of Brazil, Portugal, Timor-Leste and representatives of Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea and Mozambique, as well as diplomats from the Permanent Mission of Angola.<\/p>\n

Angola assumed the rotating presidency of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) during the organization’s XIII Conference of Heads of State and Government, which took place from 12 to 17 July 2021, in Luanda.<\/p>\n
