Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations, in New York, Francisco Jose\u0301 da Cruz, this Wednesday discussed with the Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and UN Legal Counsel, Miguel de Serpa Soares, issues related to enhanced cooperation.<\/b><\/p>\n

During the meeting, the two entities took advantage of the occasion to explore the possibility of training and inserting Angolan staff in the United Nations Department of Legal Affairs.<\/p>\n

The two entities also addressed the process of ongoing reforms introduced by the Secretary General of the United Nations, with a view to accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

The Portuguese Miguel de Serpa Soares was appointed as Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and Adviser to the UN on 7 August 2013.<\/p>\n

He has extensive experience in the legal sector, including a deep understanding of international political sensitivities and innovative approaches to negotiation, having represented his country in various international bilateral and multilateral forums.<\/p>\n

Born in Angola in 1967, Miguel Serpa Soares holds a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (1990), where he also held the position of Assistant Professor from 1989 to 1993.<\/p>\n
