Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The deputy governor of Malanje for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Domingos Eduardo, yesterday defended the reinforcement of the communication plan of the Financial Information Unit (FIU), to elucidate citizens about the mechanisms to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.<\/b><\/p>\n

For this purpose, Information and Communication Technologies should be used, taking into account their scope in terms of users, said the official, during a workshop on the role of the FIU in combating money laundering and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.<\/p>\n

He made it known that such practices constitute a global challenge with local responsibilities and require the conformity of the actions of related institutions to internationally established norms to minimize risk exposure.<\/p>\n

He stressed that money laundering and financing of terrorism are transnational phenomena with harmful consequences for the economic and social development of a given country, so combating them must be a priority.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Deputy Director General of the FIU, Anto\u0301nio Freire dos Santos, requested the intervention of all segments of society in preventing and combating such offences, through the promotion of good practices, with a view to attracting more and more investors in the country and consequently stimulating socio-economic development.<\/p>\n

The workshop lasts one day and has the participation of senior specialists and officials from the public and private financial and non-financial sectors, as well as bodies involved in the administration of justice in the provinces of Malanje and Cuanza Norte.<\/p>\n

Created on February 15, 2020, the Financial Information Unit appears to respond to the Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Law, which aims to prevent and combat this evil in the country.<\/p>\n

The body carries out its activity under the supervision of the holder of the Executive Power and under the supervision of the inspection legality of the National Bank of Angola (BNA).<\/p>\n
