Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, informed this Friday, in Gaborone, that Angola will receive 80,000 elephants from Botswana for the repopulation of national parks.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the Head of State, who was speaking at the start of official talks between delegations from both countries, as part of his State visit to that country, the animals will be housed, especially, in parks in eastern Angola.<\/p>\n

President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o understands that it is necessary to work together to prepare the corridors for the transfer of animals from northern Botswana to the national parks of Mavinga and Luengue-Luina, both in the province of Cuando Cubango.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith elephants in the parks, we believe that the attraction of tourists will be guaranteed\u201d, said Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, recalling that Botswana has a nature conservation program, within the framework of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (ATFC-KAZA).<\/p>\n

The KAZA project, called Okavambo-Zambeze, is being implemented by five states, in addition to Angola, we have Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

He referred that Angola is a signatory country, but has not yet ratified the agreement. \u201cWe will do this soon,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n

The President of the Republic said that the country will start exploring the parks and natural reserves it has, particularly in this KAZA conservation area, in the provinces of Cuando Cubango, Moxico and Bie\u0301, where the natural reserve parks of Luiana, Mavinga and Cameia are located.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o took the opportunity to say that the visit will serve to consolidate cooperation in the fields of economy, the exchange of views on the political, peace and security situation, not only in the SADC region, in general in the continent and the world.<\/p>\n

The Angolan Head of State thanked Botswana for its support in Angola’s candidacy for the presidency of the African Union for the year 2025.<\/p>\n

President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o has been making, since Thursday (20), a state visit to Botswana, with the end scheduled for Saturday (22).<\/p>\n

The two countries have as potential areas of cooperation the sectors of diamonds, education, health and environment.<\/p>\n

Angola and Botswana established diplomatic relations on February 18, 1976.<\/p>\n

In February 2006, the two countries signed a General Cooperation Agreement.<\/p>\n

In cooperation between Angola and Botswana, the diamond sector is a priority, along with education, health and the environment.<\/p>\n
