Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The International Financial Corporation (IFC) guarantees, as a credit, to mobilize US$72 million to support the construction and expansion of the Sagrada Esperanc\u0327a Clinic (CSE), supervised by the Endiama group.<\/b><\/p>\n

For the implementation of the respective financial package, the CSE and the IFC, a member of the World Bank, initialed this Friday, in Luanda, a financing agreement, whose signature was signed by the chairman of the Management Board of this clinic, Rui Pinto, and the vice-president of the IFC for Africa, Se\u0301rgio Pimenta, who ends a two-day visit to the country.<\/p>\n

After signing the agreement, Se\u0301rgio Pimenta clarified that, of the USD 72 million, the IFC will provide USD 28.5 million directly, while the remaining amount (USD 43.5 million) will be mobilized from national and international banks.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, the official said that the partnership agreement, which will serve to reinforce the construction and equipping of the CSE, also includes technical assistance from the IFC, with emphasis on projects with the greatest impact on the health sector.<\/p>\n

The financial package to be made available and mobilized from commercial banks is a long-term loan, which will be repaid over a period of 11 years.<\/p>\n

The completion of this funding, which results from long-term negotiations between the two institutions, is part of a total of US$108 million, amounts needed to cover the costs of building and equipping said infrastructure, according to CSE’s clinical director, Esmael Toma\u0301s.<\/p>\n

This investment, he said, will improve the clinic’s services, such as intensive care, emergencies, operating rooms, external consultations, in addition to including the construction of a car park and a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the new hospital unit will have the capacity to accommodate 140 beds, adding to the current hospitalization capacity of the clinic of 250 users.<\/p>\n

Without advancing the exact date for the start of work on the new hospital, Esmael Toma\u0301s said that the next step would be to draw up an action schedule, so that the contract could begin in the coming months.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Pinto de Sousa, praised the CSE initiative and considered the project of crucial importance for the reinforcement of clinical assistance to the population.<\/p>\n

He stated that the expansion of the current clinic is part of the Angolan Government’s strategy, which is increasingly committed to improving the national health service.<\/p>\n

Created in the 1990s, Cli\u0301nica Sagrada Esperanc\u0327a is one of the largest business-run health institutions in Angola, which serves more than a thousand users daily, from companies, state bodies, insurance companies and individuals.<\/p>\n

It has a network of 29 health care units, distributed in 16 provinces of the country, with 300 doctors, 400 nurses and 350 health technicians.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank group, is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets.<\/p>\n

The institution works in more than 100 countries and uses its capital, technical knowledge and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries.<\/p>\n

In fiscal 2022, IFC committed a record $32.8 billion to private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, leveraging the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity as economies grapple with the impacts of worsening global crises.<\/p>\n
