Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan swimmer Henrique Mascarenhas registered, this Monday (24th), a double improvement, by lowering his mark and position in the 200-metre freestyle event of the World Championship, taking place in Japan.<\/b><\/p>\n

The national freestyle specialist clocked 1:55.09 and is 52nd among 72 opponents, improving three places in relation to the 55th position, which he brought from the 2022 edition, in Hungary, in which he made a time of 1:58.03, on June 19.<\/p>\n

With this performance, Henrique showed his good form, surpassing around 2s.94d of the mark made in the last edition.<\/p>\n

The competitor was also just 8s.39d from 16th place, in which he qualified for the semi-finals, the Swiss Anto\u0301nio Djakovic (1:46.70).<\/p>\n

The Angolan was one of the few who surpassed his record in this dispute, in which even the world champion, the Romanian Davi Popovic, already qualified for the final, stumbled in time (1:44.70), against 1:43.21 that deserved him the gold, in 2022.<\/p>\n

The other two on the Budapest podium, also qualified for this final, had a crisis in time, the runner-up, Korean Sunwoo Hwang scored 1:45.07, against 1:44.47 in 2022.<\/p>\n

The swimmer from Great Britain, Tom Rector, who won bronze, finished in 1:45.29, worse than what he established in the final of the last world championship (1:44.98). Henrique will swim again on Wednesday (the 26th), at 2:57 am, in the 100m freestyle.<\/p>\n

Also on this day, the country will have the representation of the experienced Lia Lima, in the 200 m butterfly, at 3:40 am. The race full of surprises, has the runner-up country, China, leading the medal table, with 17 gold, five (5) silver and six (6) bronze.<\/p>\n

Australia comes in second, with five (5) gold, two (2) silver and one (1) bronze. Japan is third with four (4) gold, one (1) silver and four (4) bronze medals.<\/p>\n

The world champion, United States of America, occupies the seventh place, with one (1) gold, seven (7) silver and six (6) bronze.<\/p>\n
