Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Miguel Bembe, said Wednesday that the country remains committed to the process of implementation of the goals inherent in joining the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at a “Workshop for the Revitalization of National Structures”, organized by the aforementioned Mechanism, which began Tuesday in Victoria, Republic of Seychelles, the diplomat reaffirmed Angola’s permanent availability to absorb the expertise of the MARP, an African Union body created in 2002, as an instrument for assessing performance and political, economic and social progress among Member States.<\/p>\n

He referred that the voluntary adhesion of the Republic of Angola to the MARP, on 08 July 2004, demonstrates the openness of the country to the regular assessment by that body of issues of Peace and Security, Democracy, Good Governance and Economic Management.<\/p>\n

During the event, the diplomat presented detailed information on the implementation of the commitments assumed by Angola, related to the attributions of the MARP, having highlighted the carrying out of electoral processes on a regular basis, the first partial revision of the Constitution of the Republic, with the aim of<\/p>\n

adjust it to the country’s current context, strengthen the democratic rule of law, the principles of separation of powers and interdependence of functions of sovereign bodies and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens.<\/p>\n

Improvements in national and international indices on Freedom of the Press, the protection of Human Rights, Combating Corruption, Good Governance and \u201cDoing Business\u201d, the process of reforming the Justice and Human Rights sector, as well as the conclusion the implementation of the Judiciary map, were other constant items of the intervention.<\/p>\n

Likewise, aspects relating to the consolidation of the role of women in the political, social and economic sphere, and investment in strengthening social protection for all Angolans, with the implementation of the \u201cKwenda\u201d Income Transfer Program in favor of families vulnerable, were referenced by Ambassador Miguel Bembe.<\/p>\n

The diplomat underlined that Angola carried out a wide public consultation, on the possible alteration of the political-administrative division of some national provinces, to boost government action, promote a fairer and more balanced distribution of the national territory, as well as harmonious economic and social development. from the country.<\/p>\n

Still on the macroeconomic front, Miguel Bembe explained the various multisectoral reforms that Angola has undertaken since 2018, with emphasis on the adoption of a flexible exchange rate regime and the FXGO platform for trading foreign exchange.<\/p>\n

He cited the creation and implementation of a program to support National Production and Boost Exports (PRODESI), the Introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) and the Special Consumption Code (CEC, 2019 -2022).<\/p>\n
