Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The construction work on the Ndu\u0301e and Calucuve dams, in Cunene, two of the various structuring projects to combat drought, register an acceptable dynamic, corresponding to the fulfillment of the established deadlines.<\/b><\/p>\n

The project for lot 05, which corresponds to the construction of the Ndu\u0301e dam on the Caundo river, until the end of July, reached a physical execution level of around 23.29% and a financial level of 21.53%.<\/p>\n

Lot 03, of the Calucuve dam project on the Cuvelai river, has a degree of physical execution of around 16.27% and a financial level of 16.27%.<\/p>\n

At this time, in both projects, work is underway to place the concrete for filling the diversion gallery, excavations upstream and downstream of the flood spillway and return channel, among others.<\/p>\n

The information was provided this Thursday, by the director of the National Institute of Water Resources (INRH), Narciso Ambro\u0301sio, stressing that from the technical assessment on the ground, the work carried out so far guarantees a positive evolution,<\/p>\n

“The assessment that can be made now of the Ndu\u0301e and Calucuve projects we consider satisfactory, as the level of physical execution they present at the moment is acceptable”, he said.<\/p>\n

Narciso Ambro\u0301sio said that the dynamics of the work in progress are good indicators of compliance with established contractual deadlines, since the contractors involved in the construction have technical and financial capacity.<\/p>\n

As benefits, the Ndu\u0301e dam will improve access, supply water to 55,000 inhabitants, 60,000 head of cattle, irrigate an area of \u200b\u200b9,200 hectares and create 591 direct jobs.<\/p>\n

Calucuve will cover 81,000 people, 182,000 head of cattle, will have an area of \u200b\u200b6,200 hectares for agriculture and the creation of 390 direct jobs for young people.<\/p>\n

The Ndu\u0301e dam will be 23.51 meters high and have a storage capacity of 170 million cubic meters of water and will comprise a 75-kilometer network of conduits leading to the municipality of Namacunde, passing through the communes of Cubati (Cuvelai) and Oshimolo (Cuanhama), as well as 15 chimpacas.<\/p>\n

Calucuve with 25.90 meters high and a storage volume of 141 million cubic meters of water, will have a network of channels, with an extension of 111 kilometers and 44 chimpacas.<\/p>\n

The province of Cunene, specifically in the municipalities of Cahama and Curoca, is also counting on the execution of projects for lots 07, 08 and 09 on the right bank of the river Cunene.<\/p>\n

In April 2022, the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, inaugurated the Canal do Cafu, which consists of a system for capturing and transferring water from the Cunene River to various villages, through a 160 km pipeline, along which 30 chimpacas (places for watering cattle) were built, each with a capacity of 30 million liters.<\/p>\n

Valued at 44 billion, 358 million and 360 thousand 651 kwanzas, it is benefiting an estimated population of 235 thousand inhabitants, watering 250 thousand animals and irrigating five thousand hectares of agricultural fields.<\/p>\n
