Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The District Court of the municipality of Buco-Zau, north of Cabinda, sentenced 44 citizens of the Republic of Congo to six (6) months in prison, for prospecting and illegal extraction of mines (gold).<\/b><\/p>\n

The Court ruling, states that the 44 foreign citizens were also convicted of border violation and illegal stay in Angolan territory.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the summary judgment it was proved that the Congolese citizens entered the national territory illegally and that they illegally prospected for miners\u201d, noted the Public Prosecutor at the District Courts of Buco-Zau and Belize, Mateus Gonga.<\/p>\n

The public prosecutor informed that the sentences range up to two (2) years in prison, but that in the case of Congolese citizens it was reduced to the payment of a fine for six months, the amount of which he did not specify.<\/p>\n

The illegal exploitation of gold in the municipality of Buco-Zau has attracted national citizens, from neighboring countries (Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo), as well as Chinese.<\/p>\n
