Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, returned this Friday to the country’s capital, after three days in the provinces of Hui\u0301la and Cunene, where he learned about the development and progress of local projects.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the country’s capital, the Statesman received greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, and from senior State officials.<\/p>\n

The Statesman’s trip to the south of the country had the province of Hui\u0301la as the first stage, where he held a meeting with the local government, as well as inaugurating the 4th Edition of the Feira dos Munici\u0301pios e Cidades de Angola, which took place for the first time in the capital of Huila.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the President of the Republic encouraged provincial governments and municipal administrations to boost local development, with a view to attracting more private investment.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening of the 4th edition of the Feira dos Munici\u0301pios e Cidades de Angola and the 9th edition of the National Forum of Municipalities and Cities in Angola, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o underlined the importance of these state administration bodies playing a \u201ccrucial role\u201d in reducing existing asymmetries .<\/p>\n

In the province of Cunene, in addition to maintaining contact with the local authorities, the President observed the progress of works on the Ndu\u0301e and Calucuve dams, in the Cuvelai, as part of the commitment to combating drought in the southern region.<\/p>\n

With the two structuring projects, the Angolan government wants to see the water supply to communities reinforced, as well as to livestock and irrigation of agricultural fields.<\/p>\n

The two projects, whose works were launched in 2021, are part of the program to combat drought in the southern region of the country, which provides for another six dams.<\/p>\n

In general, with the works the Government expects to benefit 136 thousand people, 260 thousand head of cattle, in addition to guaranteeing the irrigation of 11 thousand 600 hectares of agricultural land.<\/p>\n

The Calucuve Dam, in the Cuvelai basin, will have a network of channels, with a length of 111 kilometers and over 44 chimpacas.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Ndu\u0301e will have a 75-kilometre network of adductors and 15 more chimpacas.<\/p>\n

The two projects join the Cunene River Capture System, from the Cafu region, a “successful” initiative that supports thousands of families.<\/p>\n

During the President of the Republic’s working visit, he went to the General Hospital, which foresees a capacity for 220 beds, in an investment of 52 million euros.<\/p>\n
