Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Presidents of eight countries have already confirmed their participation in the 43rd Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), taking place on the 17th of this month, in the Angolan capital.<\/b><\/p>\n

These are Presidents Hage Geingob (from Namibia), Fe\u0301lix Tshisekedi (from Democratic Congo), Hakainde Hichilema (from Zambia), Lazarus Chakwera (from Malawi), Cyril Ramaphosa (from South Africa), Filipe Nyusi (from Mozambique), Mokgweetsi Masisi (from Botswana) and Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o (from Angola), the latter who will assume the rotating presidency of SADC, for one year.<\/p>\n

The information was provided this Saturday, in Luanda, by the national secretary of SADC, Nazare\u0301 Salvador, during a press conference for the presentation of the summit that will take place under the sign \u201chuman and financial capital: the main factors for sustainable industrialization in the region of SADC\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the diplomat, with the exception of the Comoros and Madagascar Islands, sanctioned for non-compliance with the payment of annual quotas, all member countries of the community will take part in the summit.<\/p>\n

As an example, Nazare\u0301 Salvador said that the delegation of Lesotho will be led by its Prime Minister, while that of the Seychelles will be guided by the Vice-President of that country.<\/p>\n

During the one-day event, the Democratic Republic of Congo will hand over the rotating presidency of SADC to the Republic of Angola.<\/p>\n

The SADC summit is responsible for the overall policy direction and control of the functions of the community, ultimately becoming its decision-making institution.<\/p>\n

The ordinary summit takes place every year and is attended by the Heads of State and Government of the 16 member states, namely Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

It also counts on the participation of heads of continental and regional bodies as observers.<\/p>\n

The 43rd summit will be preceded by meetings of senior officials and the SADC council of ministers, who prepare the agenda for the Heads of State and Government.<\/p>\n

The council of ministers oversees the functioning and development of SADC and ensures that policies are properly implemented.<\/p>\n

This body is made up of ministers from each Member State, generally from Foreign Affairs, Economic Planning or Finance.<\/p>\n

The Southern African Development Community is an inter-governmental organization created in 1992 and dedicated to socio-economic cooperation and integration, as well as cooperation in matters of politics and security in the countries of Southern Africa.<\/p>\n
