Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), ended this Monday in Luanda, discussed the operation of the center for the coordination of humanitarian operations, to face calamities and natural disasters in the region.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided at the end of the meeting started on Sunday to prepare the 43rd Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, to be held on the 17th, Thursday, in the Angolan capital, Luanda.<\/p>\n

According to the spokesman for the Summit, Jorge Catarino Cardoso, the ministers considered that the operationalization of the Mozambican port of Nacala will make it possible to deal with calamities and natural disasters in a coherent, consistent and coordinated manner.<\/p>\n

He explained that at least eight countries have already signed the agreement for the operation of the center, with three remaining for the mechanism for the prevention and management of natural disasters to work.<\/p>\n

He indicated that Angola is expected to sign the memorandum during the Summit to make the mechanism viable, mainly because the rainy season is approaching, with the risk of disasters, floods and drought, which cause food insecurity and the destruction of important infrastructures. .<\/p>\n

The also director for Africa, Middle East and Regional Affairs of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that the Council of Ministers evaluated the advances in the implementation of the protocol on gender parity and development in the southern region, as an essential tool for the positive affirmation of women .<\/p>\n

He referred that the Council highlighted Namibia with a representation of 55% of women in the Executive, and South Africa which has also reached the parity established by the African Union.<\/p>\n

He added that Angola, as a representation of women in sovereign bodies in the order of 38%, is taking a step towards parity.<\/p>\n

Jorge Cardoso informed that the region is preparing a tribute to the former Tanzanian statesman and nationalist, Julius Kambarage Nyerere (1922-1999), with the construction and unveiling of a statue of him in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), on the occasion of the next summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.<\/p>\n

The ministerial meeting, according to the spokesperson, held consultations on candidacies in the region for the organizations of the African Union and for the various agencies of the UN system, forging the best diplomatic strategies to reach the desired positions.<\/p>\n

He cited, as an example, the candidacy of Mauritius to be a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the 2025\/2026 biennium, and of Zimbabwe for 2027\/2028, of Tanzania for the presidency of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in an assembly taking place in October, in Luanda, and from Zambia who aspires to the position of secretary general of the international police organization, Interpol.<\/p>\n

The Summit of SADC Heads of State on the 17th will be preceded by the meeting of the Troika of the body, the body in charge of peace, defense and security issues, which will analyze the situation of political stability and security in the region.<\/p>\n

Jorge Cardoso informed that the Council of Ministers adopted and decided to submit the motto \u201cHuman and financial capital: main factors for the sustainable industrialization of the SADC Region\u201d to the approval of the Summit of the Head of State and Government.<\/p>\n
