Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, pointed out, this Tuesday, the need for parliament to be the voice of peace, the face of political representation, dialogue and concertation, the diversity of constructive and ethical debate.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the closing session of the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira advanced that the path is made by walking with confidence, focus and perseverance, tranquility and respect for the democratically elected institutions, for the achievement of the objectives recommended for the improvement of life for Angolans.<\/p>\n

In his view, this should be the democracy that seeks to promote in the National Assembly, a way of life for all Angolans, thus transforming society into a better project of inclusion and social justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we enter this house, we carry the arduous task of being the voice, spirit and strength of our people. Every decision we make, every word we utter echoes in the hearts and in the destinies and experiences of the communities we represent. As deputies, we are not only guardians of popular aspirations, but also heralds of justice, values \u200b\u200band good customs and collective well-being \u201d, he reinforced.<\/p>\n

According to Carolina Cerqueira, the deputy’s main mission is to deepen democracy in the exercise of citizenship, civil and social rights, to deepen national cohesion, seeking to understand adverse positions, respecting divergent opinions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must be the social basis for the tireless pursuit of dialogue and conciliation and the peaceful resolution of conflicts\u201d, he asserted.<\/p>\n

For the official, deputies should be a model for society at the most varied levels, which is why they should guide their actions, whether in AN or in other areas of political and social activity, based on ethics and institutional values.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause in the end we will always be seen as legitimate representatives in this house of the Angolan people, who have an immense responsibility to honor the unparalleled qualities that define our nation and celebrate the achievements that shape our history\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

The Angolan people, he said, with their tenacity and untiring effort, have been following a path of admirable resilience and determination, hence the imperative need for the acts and deliberations of parliamentarians to live up to the merits of the population.<\/p>\n

In urging deputies to continue to raise the flag of integrity and dedication, Carolina Cerqueira mentioned the need for each one to play a crucial role in that melody (nation) that echoes in the four corners of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay we face challenges with the resilience that is characteristic of us, honoring the trust placed in us with tireless commitment. With this I want to appeal so that in the next legislative year we work even more in an environment of democratic alliance in the meeting of the common good of all Angolan men and women\u201d, she asserted.<\/p>\n

As president of the AN, Carolina Cerqueira said that she will continue to seek to act in accordance with consensual decisions, with permanent consultation with parliamentary leaders and representatives of specialized commissions, above all in situations of greater sensitivity and reaffirmation of the common commitment to peace, for a culture of tolerance and reconciliation, fraternity, unity in diversity and the dignity of persons.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hallmark I try to cultivate in this house is that institutionally we are the representatives of the people and we must be aligned and solidly united, even if there is disagreement or controversy on certain aspects, we must always unite in favor of the best interest of the Angolan people\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

The President of AN thanked the Executive for the permanent institutional cooperation that contributed to increase the performance levels of parliamentary work in favor of national development and the strengthening of our democratic state of law.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira stated that the deputies are aware of the current moment in the country and the economic and social difficulties oblige them to work harder to improve this reality, to the benefit of companies and families, thus safeguarding stability, social peace and political peace at all levels.<\/p>\n

The parliamentary leader expressed satisfaction with the fact that, in the AN, there is a substantial increase in female and generational representation with the growing number of young people, the largest ever compared to previous legislatures, which encourages gender equality and the inclusion of young people in political life is a reference value for the collective development of society in which parliament is organized as a space that seeks equity in its multiple demands and that can generate a catalyzing movement of these values.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira informed that actions are being developed for the creation of technical and material conditions for the opening of Parliament’s TV and Radio channels, as an informative and training service of important relevance for the dissemination of parliamentary activity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe created more open channels to establish communication with society in real time about the actions arising from our work agenda, through our official website on the internet, on YouTube and on social networks and, on the other hand, we implemented faster response mechanisms, to provide a solution to the interventions made by the citizens\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

According to the parliamentary leader, adhesion to the global campaign “My parliament, my planet” promoted by the UIP is being prepared as a way of assuming the AN’s commitment to the problems of climate change.<\/p>\n

The idea, he added, is to promote the execution of a set of actions that aim to encourage legislative and governmental initiatives that guarantee the achievement of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and awareness of the populations about the good practices of environmental preservation of our planet.<\/p>\n

During the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature, 3 formal sessions were held, 8 ordinary plenary meetings and 9 extraordinary plenary meetings, 2 meetings of the interparliamentary group of the national assembly, in which matters of political, economic and social relevance for development were analyzed and discussed of the country and the improvement of the living conditions of the populations, and for the preservation of the peace and stability of the geopolitical region in which Angola is inserted.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira also noted that, in general, 19 legal diplomas were approved in the form of law, of which 5 went to the final global vote and 3 were already published in the Dia\u0301rio da Repu\u0301blica, some of which were the initiative of the deputies through their respective parliamentary groups .<\/p>\n

46 resolutions were also approved, 35 of which have already been published in the Republic’s Gazette.<\/p>\n

Regarding diplomatic action, he highlighted the strengthening of bilateral cooperation with similar institutions and engagement with regional and international organizations and bodies, as well as those of a humanitarian nature.<\/p>\n
