Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary of State for Forests, Andre\u0301 de Jesus Moda, requested in Menongue, Cuando Cubango province, a greater organization of logging companies, in order to promote repopulation actions in exploited areas.<\/b><\/p>\n

Andre\u0301 de Jesus Moda made this request at the meeting he held with members of the association of loggers and the association for the exploitation of forests in the province of Cuando Cubango, witnessed by the provincial governor, Jose\u0301 Martins.<\/p>\n

He said that in order to put an end to the disorganization, the Secretary of State for Forests announced that, from 2024, annual licenses would cease to exist and land design contracts could be awarded, the minimum space of which is part of the 10,000 hectares of land\/ year with a reforestation package.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere needs to be, from now on, greater organization on the part of municipal administrations, as local managers and loggers in forest exploitation, to ensure, in a continuous and sustainable way, the flora, fauna and man himself\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

With this, he added, there will be guarantees of greater sustainability of forest resources.<\/p>\n

Andre\u0301 Moda lamented the fact that entrepreneurs in the sector in Cuando Cubango never presented a report justifying the exploitation of native forest in each campaign, through the Institute of Forestry Development (IDF).<\/p>\n

He considered it a recurrent practice, which should be banned, as it does not help in the desired rational exploitation of wood, hence the penalty of many entrepreneurs in the timely transfer of licenses.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State took the opportunity to announce that the exploitation of Mussivi type wood, suspended since March, will be reactivated, for companies that obey the rules of the design contract.<\/p>\n

For his part, the governor of Cuando Cubango, Jose\u0301 Martins, admitted that there are regular non-compliance with forest exploitation, with indiscriminate cuts of Mussivi wood, outside established norms.<\/p>\n

He said that the government wants to continue cooperation with the business class in the logging sector, but through a forest design contract and not with licenses as used to happen.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the minister said it was necessary for businessmen to also assume social responsibility with exploited communities, such as the construction of schools, small water holes and the recovery of roads.<\/p>\n

On the issue of exporting existing wood in the municipalities of Cuangar and Calai, bordering Namibia, in the southern strip, Jose\u0301 Martins assured that it will be overcome shortly, through security measures found for this purpose.<\/p>\n

The government official reiterated, on the occasion, that the measures will not remove the possibility of criminal liability for businessmen who carry out exports outside the margins regulated by law, especially in the existing quotas for Cuando Cubango.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that the Association of Loggers of Cuando Cubango received a quota of 21,500 cubic meters, with 10 validated licenses carried over from the 2022 campaign, in a set of more than 30,000 cubic meters accumulated, making a total of one thousand trucks with wood that will circulate for your transport.<\/p>\n

In Cuando Cubango, 34 timber companies are controlled, with the most exploited types of wood being Mussivi, Girassonde and Mucusso.<\/p>\n
