Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola hosts this Thursday (17th) the 43rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), during which it will assume, for one year, the rotating presidency of the regional organization.<\/b><\/p>\n

For the Luanda Summit, the Heads of State of Mozambique, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia and Zimbabwe are in the country, as well as the vice-president of Tanzania and representatives of of State and Government of the Seychelles, Mauritius and Comoros.<\/p>\n

The organization includes Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

The 43rd SADC Summit will also be attended by representatives of continental and regional bodies and cooperation partners, as observers.<\/p>\n

Under the motto \u201cHuman and financial capital: main factors for the sustainable industrialization of the SADC Region\u201d, the Summit was preceded by a meeting of the Troika, the body in charge of peace, defense and security issues, which analyzed the situation of political stability in the region.<\/p>\n

Special attention was paid to the peace and security situation in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in Cabo Delegado, Mozambique<\/p>\n

Preparatory meetings of the Council of Ministers and the Standing Committee of Senior Officials of the organization also took place.<\/p>\n

The SADC Council of Ministers discussed the operationalization of the operations coordination center to deal with calamities and natural disasters in the region, gender parity and the region’s candidacy strategy for the African Union and for the various agencies of the UN system.<\/p>\n

In other preparatory meetings, the Committee of Senior Officials found that SADC Member States contributed $47 million of the $129 million it needed to fund its operations for the 2023\/2024 fiscal year.<\/p>\n

The Organization’s norms guide that the Member States must finance its operations in 70% and the international partners in the remaining 30%.<\/p>\n

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is an inter-governmental organization, created in 1992, and dedicated to cooperation and socio-economic integration in the region, as well as cooperation in matters of politics and security.<\/p>\n

A little about Angola<\/p>\n

Bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and with one million 247 thousand square kilometers, Angola is located in the western part of Southern Africa and borders with the Republics of Congo, Democratic Congo, Zambia and Namibia.<\/p>\n

The population is estimated at just over 30 million inhabitants.<\/p>\n

It is estimated that the Angolan subsoil harbors 35 of the 45 most important minerals in world trade, among which oil, natural gas, diamonds, phosphates, bituminous substances, iron, copper, magnesium, gold and ornamental rocks stand out.<\/p>\n
