Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The coordinator of the North Judicial Region for the province of Zaire, Neto Joaquim Neto, defended, this Thursday, the need for greater monitoring from a legal point of view of children hospitalized at the Frei Giorgio Zulianello centre, in Mbanza Kongo .<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, after visiting the said center, the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic stated that the PGR, as guardian of legality, has an obligation to assess the real motivations that lead children to be abandoned by their parents and hospitalized in that space, located in the neighborhood November 11th.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PGR needs to work hard to find out the origin of the children, their parents and the reasons for the hospitalization of these minors in this center for the possible attribution of personal identification, he said.<\/p>\n

According to the magistrate, two factors oblige minors to be exposed to vulnerable conditions, namely the conflict with the law and the search for social protection.<\/p>\n

Regarding the 37 children from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who are also welcomed at the said center, Neto Joaquim Neto explained that from a legal point of view they deserve equal treatment with Angolan children.<\/p>\n

In turn, the head of the provincial department for social action, Noe\u0301 Ndongala Nvica, informed that 21 children who were at the Giorgio Zulianello center returned to family life last year, as part of the family reunification programme.<\/p>\n

He explained that, of this number, six were delivered to biological families in the DRC and two in the provinces of Ui\u0301ge and Luanda.<\/p>\n

The family reunification process, he said, relies on the involvement of the National Children’s Institute (INAC) and the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Promotion.<\/p>\n

He made it known that the majority of children are abandoned at border posts with the DRC, as well as at the National Police checkpoints on the national road that connects the province of Zaire to the capital, Luanda.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Frei Giorgio Zulianello center welcomes 97 children aged between one and 17 years.<\/p>\n
