Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>At least 120 heads of cattle, goats and poultry are on display at the 19th edition of the Agricultural Fair of the south of the country, opened Thursday, in Lubango, as part of a promotion by the National Federation of Livestock Cooperatives of Angola (FENACOOPA).<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening of the fair, the president of the National Federation of Livestock Cooperatives of Angola (FENACOOPA), Salvador Rodrigues, said that they are negotiating the operationality of the National Plan for the Promotion and Development of Livestock (PLANAPECUARIA), so that it is simplified, without bureaucracy. and as soon as they have the conditions they can benefit from the programmed support.<\/p>\n

He declared that one of the great difficulties of the members is the lack of a logistical system, as organizing this type of fair is expensive, especially the lack of transport, taking the cattle from the farms in appropriate trucks and without adequate feed is difficult, a situation that makes some cattlemen give up.<\/p>\n

“A fair of this type has two components, the exhibition component, the high genetic cattle that cannot be driven with a sledgehammer, from top to bottom, in unfit trucks. They are not for sale, but for exhibition and return. In our projects, in the infrastructures for collective use there are trucks and machines suitable for this type of task”, he explained.<\/p>\n

Another issue, according to Salvador Rodrigues, is the existence of large numbers of herds aging, lacking technical logistical support to increase the slaughtering and cold storage capacity, in order to be able to put quality meat on the market in hygienic and sanitary conditions.<\/p>\n

He reinforced that livestock farmers have always produced, so they need an organized and sustainable structure to make Angola an independent land in terms of livestock products.<\/p>\n

In turn, the vice-governor for the political, economic and social sector of Hui\u0301la, Maria Joa\u0303o Chipalavela, highlighted that the province has the largest herds, mainly cattle, but the concern lies in the value chain, with products such as skin, horn and hoof that miss out on processing, a necessary industry.<\/p>\n

“We are sure that your strength will contribute to enhance the economic development of Hui\u0301la, increase revenue collection and this will allow us to talk about artificial insemination and improve the quality of animals. In a few more years, we have faith that we will not need to import so much meat and that our market could be attractive and interesting”, continued<\/p>\n

It is estimated that at least three million head of cattle, out of a universe of five million existing in the country, are aging, a situation that could be overcome with the implementation of the National Plan for the Promotion and Development of Livestock (PLANAPECUARIA).<\/p>\n

With this operationalization of the plan, it will be possible to maintain a logistics chain with commercialization capacity to slaughter and transform all these old cattle into meat and combine, with a genetic improvement program, the replacement of the old one.<\/p>\n

The cattle fair, part of the 121st edition of the Festas de Nosso Senhora do Monte, runs until Sunday and has cattle represented from 15 farms in the provinces of Hui\u0301la, Namibe and Cunene.<\/p>\n

Roughly speaking, at least 80 are cattle, of the usual breeds such as mix, nelore, zebu nelore, brahman, simmental and traditional, with the event having been affected by difficulties with transport for producers.<\/p>\n

During the event, two auctions will be held, one on Saturday for small animals and the other on Sunday exclusively for cattle, where they expect to raise more than 200 million kwanzas and plan to test the online auction.<\/p>\n

During the four days, four panels will be debated, namely pig farming, livestock production and development, livestock and financial products and also Brazil’s experience in animal production and reproduction.<\/p>\n

Members of FENACOOPA were present at the opening of the event, with emphasis on the Union of Cooperatives of Livestock Breeders of the Southern Region of Angola, the latter hosting the event.<\/p>\n

The federation is made up of cooperatives from four regions, the south, central, west and north, where close to 1,500 small and medium-sized companies form part.<\/p>\n

The 18th Edition of the Hui\u0301la Agro-Livestock Fair featured close to 600 head of improved cattle.<\/p>\n
