Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, signed this Thursday several cooperation protocols within the scope of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), including the fight against AIDS in the region by 2030.<\/b><\/p>\n

The legal instruments, signed shortly before the closing of the 43rd Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, held in the Angolan capital, point to the disease as a threat to public health within the community.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o also signed the SADC protocol on employment and work.<\/p>\n

The Angolan statesman, who this Thursday assumed the rotating presidency of the regional organisation, initialed the protocols on employment and work, on statistics, on tourism development and on the control of arms, ammunition and other related material.<\/p>\n

On the same occasion, the statesman also signed the protocols on facilitating the movement of people in the region and the intergovernmental memorandum of agreement between the SADC Member States for the creation of the center for humanitarian operations and responses to emergencies.<\/p>\n

Detailed explanations of the terms of the signed legal instruments were not provided.<\/p>\n

After having already done so in 2012, Angola took over for one year, the rotating presidency of the organization, which also includes Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

SADC is an inter-governmental organization created in 1992 and dedicated to socio-economic cooperation and integration, as well as cooperation in matters of politics and security.<\/p>\n
