Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The governments of Angola and Malawi reinforced bilateral cooperation, this Friday, with the signing, in Luanda, of the general cooperation agreement, with a focus on promoting partnership and trade.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the presence of the Heads of State of Angola, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio (Angola), and Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo (Malawi) signed the understanding.<\/p>\n

The General Cooperation Agreement covers the sectors of trade, industry, tourism, defence\/security, mines, energy, transport, agriculture, as well as migration.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, minister Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio said that with the signing of the document Angola and Malawi are turning a corner in bilateral cooperation, paving the way for specific agreements, with emphasis on the energy and transport sectors.<\/p>\n

He informed that the Malawian authorities are very interested in the Lobito Corridor, due to the rail connection that this country has with the Republic of Zambia, which borders Angola.<\/p>\n

Malawian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, highlighted the importance of the agreements, noting that they aim to strengthen the union between the two nations that make up the Southern African Development Community (SADC).<\/p>\n

Before formalizing the document, Presidents Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o and Lazarus Chakwera met privately at the Presidential Palace, having addressed issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n

President Lazarus Chakwera has been in the Angolan capital since Wednesday, where he participated, on Thursday (17), in the 43rd Summit of Heads of State and Government of SADC.<\/p>\n

Malawi is a country in Southern Africa, with about 11 million inhabitants. It is a member of SADC and its economy is based on agriculture and tourism is proving to be an important source of revenue for the State.<\/p>\n
