Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The holding of the 43rd Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the closing of the 2022-2023 parliamentary year dominated the political news released in the last seven days.<\/b><\/p>\n

Meeting on Thursday (17th) in Luanda, the Summit of Heads of State and Government of SADC elected Angola to the rotating presidency of the organization, for one year, and endorsed the regional gas master plan for 2023-2038.<\/p>\n

The meeting extended the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) for a period of 12 months and encouraged the process of consolidating democracy through elections in Member States.<\/p>\n

During the summit, the President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, was elected to lead the Organ on Political, Defense and Security Cooperation.<\/p>\n

In the parliamentary framework, the solemn closing session of the 2022-2023 legislative year deserves special mention.<\/p>\n

The approval of the New General Labor Law, by the National Assembly, was the headline of the 2022-2023 parliamentary year of the V Legislature, which ends on Tuesday (15).<\/p>\n

Approved in May 2023, the new General Labor Law reintroduces the employment contract for an indefinite period as a rule, and assumes the employment contract as the only form of constitution of legal and labor relations.<\/p>\n

Among the laws approved definitively in the parliamentary year 2022-2023 of the V Legislature, the Law on the Labor Procedure Code and the Proposed Law approving the General State Budget for the 2023 Financial Year also stand out.<\/p>\n

As Angolan Head of State, President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o received in audience, during the course of the week, the Minister of Commerce of China, Wang Wentao, with whom he reviewed the cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

Political news was also marked by the signing of the general cooperation agreement between Angola and Malawi.<\/p>\n

The understanding covers the sectors of commerce, industry, tourism, defence\/security, mines, energy, transport and agriculture.<\/p>\n

The protocol was signed in the presence of the Heads of State of Angola, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio (Angola), and of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo (Malawi).<\/p>\n

In the field of Justice, the judge of the Supreme Court, Efige\u0301nia Clemente, obtained the highest number of votes (8) among the three candidates for the vice-president of this Supreme Court of the Judiciary, whose appointment is reserved, by law, to the President of the Republic.<\/p>\n

Efige\u0301nia Clemente surpassed, in the internal competition, the venerable judges Daniel Geraldes, who obtained six (6) votes, and Maria Teresa Marc\u0327al, with one (1), during the voting in plenary session.<\/p>\n

The Constitution of the Republic of Angola (CRA) provides that the vice president of the Supreme Court is appointed by the President of the Republic from among the three candidates selected by two thirds of the counselor judges in office.<\/p>\n

However, regardless of the election results, which put Efige\u0301nia Clemente \u201capparently\u201d in an advantageous position, the nomination could fall to any of the three candidates.<\/p>\n

During the week, MPLA vice-president, Lui\u0301sa Damia\u0303o, defended the continuous implementation of efficient communication mechanisms with the public, without noise and monologues, to promote unity and interaction between militants and cadres at various levels.<\/p>\n

Lui\u0301sa Damia\u0303o was speaking at the opening of the meeting of the secretaries for Organization and Mobilization, for Staff Policy and for Political and Electoral Affairs of the party organization.<\/p>\n
