Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on the 8th of March. The date was established by the United Nations and is currently celebrated in more than 100 countries.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the specific case of Angola, the date is celebrated to honor the achievements and importance of women in society, as well as to promote reflections on the progress of women in terms of the right to vote and the exercise of public office, access to the labor market and the education.<\/p>\n

The date also serves to reinforce the fight against inequalities and injustices, such as sexual exploitation, discrimination and other problems that still persist.<\/p>\n

In support of the event, Jornal de Angola heard women who stand out in their tasks, such as K\u00e1tia Gabriel, a Chemistry teacher for several years and who dreams of becoming a full professor, and Isaura Epanda, a winning woman, who at age 12 had the first contact with alcoholic beverages. During the 19 years she lived dependent on alcohol, she saw six of the seven children she fathered die. Recovered from addiction, 25 years ago, she wrote a book entitled “Memories of an alcoholic”, where she tells her experience and created, two decades ago, the Luz do Renascer Association, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), dedicated to the fight against alcoholism.<\/p>\n
