Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Three new legal instruments for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the republics of Angola and Cuba were signed this Monday in Luanda, as part of the visit of the Cuban statesman, Miguel Di\u0301az-Canel.<\/b><\/p>\n

This is the Memorandum of Understanding on the Tourism sector, the Memorandum between the Medicines Regulatory Agency (ARMED) and the State Control Center for Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices in Cuba, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding for the promotion of investments between the Luanda\/Bengo Special Economic Zone development society and the Mariel Office.<\/p>\n

In the presence of the Angolan Heads of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and the Cuban, Miguel Di\u0301az-Canel, signed the aforementioned instruments for Angola, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau, the director of the Medicines Regulatory Agency, Katila Mangueira, and the president of the Special Economic Zone Board of Directors, Manuel Francisco Pedro, and Cuba, by that country’s ambassador to Angola, Esther Gloria Armenteros Ca\u0301rdenas, who initialed the three documents.<\/p>\n

Before signing, the two statesmen met in private, and discussed and envisaged actions for closer bilateral relations in the political, economic, diplomatic, commercial, social and cultural sectors.<\/p>\n

Angola and Cuba maintain excellent cooperation relations in various areas such as security, education, health, transport, public works, construction, oil, sports, culture, tourism and agriculture.<\/p>\n

The two States established diplomatic relations on November 15, 1975, four days after Angola’s independence, and a year later they signed the General Cooperation Agreement, which gave rise to the Bilateral Commission.<\/p>\n

This Caribbean State has trained many Angolan cadres and aspires to greater involvement in economic cooperation with Angola, the country it supported in the war against the apartheid regime in South Africa.<\/p>\n
