Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, highlighted Monday, the solidarity and help provided by the Cuban authorities to Angola, at the time of the invasion of the former forces of the apartheid regime, once in force in South Africa.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists at the end of the ceremony for the signing of legal instruments between the governments of Angola and Cuba, President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o said that in view of the invasion carried out by foreign military forces in Angolan territory, the troops of the Cuban Army, in company of Angolan troops, overcame the threats, thus guaranteeing the independence and maintenance of Angola’s sovereignty.<\/p>\n

He said that the Cubans’ solidarity with the Angolan people was extensive and “opened the doors” to the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Namibia and the constitution of the first democratically elected black government in South Africa.<\/p>\n

According to Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, Cuba’s “friendly hand” towards Angola also extended to the economy, staff training, medical assistance, civil construction, sports, among other areas.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the Angolan statesman also noted the fact that many Angolans have received academic training in Cuba, and that they currently hold important positions in the life of the country.<\/p>\n

As part of the state visit of the Cuban President, Miguel Mario Di\u0301az-Canel Bermu\u0301dez, the governments of Angola and Cuba signed, this Monday, three legal instruments, with a focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, memorandums of understanding were signed on the Tourism sector, as well as between the Medicines Regulatory Agency (ARMED) and the State Control Center for Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices of Cuba.<\/p>\n

The memorandum of understanding for the promotion of investments between the Luanda\/Bengo Special Economic Zone development society and the Mariel Office was also signed.<\/p>\n

In the presence of the Angolan Heads of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and the Cuban, Miguel Di\u0301az-Canel, the said instruments signed, for Angola, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau, the director of the Medicines Regulatory Agency, Katila Mangueira, and the President of the Board of Directors of the Special Economic Zone, Manuel Francisco Pedro.<\/p>\n

On behalf of Cuba, its ambassador to Angola, Esther Gloria Armenteros Ca\u0301rdenas, signed the three diplomas.<\/p>\n

The two countries maintain excellent cooperation relations in various areas, such as security, education, health, transport, public works, construction, oil, sports, culture, tourism and agriculture.<\/p>\n

Angola and Cuba established diplomatic relations on 15 November 1975, four days after Angolan independence. A year later, the parties signed the General Cooperation Agreement, which created the Bilateral Commission.<\/p>\n
