Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The National Directorate of Roads and Traffic (DNVT) will implement, from the first half of November, the multimedia exam to assess the skills of people who intend to drive, in order to reduce the road accident rate.<\/b><\/p>\n

The announcement was made this Wednesday by the General Commander of the National Police (PN), Arnaldo Carlos, at a press conference, after having participated in the 2nd Ordinary Session of the National Council for Roads and Traffic Planning (CNVOT), guided by Vice -President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa.<\/p>\n

“The procedures for the implementation of the referred exams are already being carried out. In November of the current year they will come into force”, he assured at the end of the meeting that analyzed road accidents in the first half of the current year.<\/p>\n

According to Arnaldo Carlos, the introduction of the multimedia exam is one of several CNVOT strategies to be implemented to reduce the number of road accidents, which from January to July of the current year amounted to seven thousand 283 (-51) accidents in relation to the same period of 2022.<\/p>\n

Records for the same period also indicate the occurrence of 1,458 (-202) deaths and 8,926 (+93) injuries in relation to the previous period, as well as material damage calculated at more than 1,000 million kwanzas.<\/p>\n

For the general commander of the National Police, speeding, illegal overtaking, among other violations of the Highway Code, indicate the lack of training of many drivers in Angola.<\/p>\n

Therefore, he continued, it is considered imperative and urgent to introduce the multimedia exam, as it is much more rigorous in assessing people’s skills, which will have a great impact on the reduction of road accidents, as well as the loss of lives and property. considerable materials.<\/p>\n

Still in relation to the first half of the current year, the commander-general of the PN informed that the main victims of accidents were pedestrians and passengers, aged between 16 and 44 years, mostly male, with 56 percent of deaths and 53 percent injured.<\/p>\n

Crashes top the list<\/p>\n

The spokesperson for the meeting said that the nature of the accidents, with greater occurrence across the country, are pedestrians and collisions between cars and motorcycles.<\/p>\n

He underlined that pedestrian accidents take precedence with two thousand 430 (-200) accidents, 558 (-170) deaths and two thousand 398 (-43) injuries.<\/p>\n

He said that, after being run over, collisions between cars and motorcycles follow with 1,530 (+86) accidents, 299 (+21) deaths and 1,974 (+146) injuries, the skid followed by rollover with 845 (-127) accidents, 237(-16) deaths and 1,462(-43) injuries.<\/p>\n

Luanda and Benguela at the top<\/p>\n

According to the source, the provinces most affected by road accidents were Luanda with 1,712 accidents (-174), 444 deaths (-59), Benguela with 549 accidents (-38) and 127 deaths (-37), Hui\u0301la with 614 (-45),91 deaths (-8), as well as Huambo with 528 (-15) and 91 deaths (-43).<\/p>\n

Arnaldo Carlos stressed that the introduction of the multimedia exam will also increase, in the most varied ministerial sectors, awareness campaigns and education of the population on the responsibilities to be had in the use of vehicles and roads.<\/p>\n

Expansion of victim support services<\/p>\n

According to the General Commander of the National Police, the aim is to expand rescue and support services for victims, reduce intervention time and guarantee pre-hospital medical assistance to victims.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, said Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, at the fore is the improvement of road infrastructure safety levels, inside and outside localities, mechanisms and procedures in the design of streets and roads in urban areas.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, CNVOT members were also informed about the memorandum of implementation of the mandatory periodic inspection actions of the execution of installation and rehabilitation works of the public lighting network and of road infrastructure inside and outside the localities.<\/p>\n

CNVOT members were also informed about the current status of pedestrian crossings, crosswalk signaling and application of central dividers on the roads.<\/p>\n

Created under Presidential Decree 18\/13, of April 15, the National Council for Traffic and Traffic Planning is the consultation body of the holder of the Executive Power in matters relating to road and traffic planning at country level.<\/p>\n
