Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Government defends the adoption of interconnected solutions, at national, continental and global level, to mitigate existing weaknesses and inequalities in the production, processing and distribution of food to the population.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Anto\u0301nio Francisco de Assis, quoted in a note sentto the press the weaknesses in the food systems still constitute accentuated challenges for the governments of several countries, a situation that demands greater coordination between the different actors, efficiency of states and society in general.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the IV Ordinary Meeting of the Food and Nutrition Security Council of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which took place this Thursday in Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe, the Angolan official also pointed out the need to guarantee access for safe and nutritious food for the population.<\/p>\n

For this, he advanced, it is necessary to create mechanisms for easy access to bank credits, linked to the value chain of food systems, as well as to reduce interest rates and taxes and ensure that the formal market is encouraged.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, he underlined that, after the CPLP meeting on Food Security, held on July 17, 2021, in Luanda, the Government of Angola engaged in carrying out the national dialogue on food systems and public consultations of the Second National Strategy of Food and Nutrition Security (ENSAN II – Angola 2030).<\/p>\n

He clarified that ENSAN II \u2013 Angola 2030 is an instrument in the process of approval that is in line with the goals of the Long-Term Development Strategy for Angola (2025), currently being revised to cover the horizon of 2050 and the Union\u2019s 2063 Agenda African.<\/p>\n

This Strategy, he said, uses a territorial approach to the food system, linking to international efforts to accelerate the transformation of food systems to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, Anto\u0301nio Francisco de Assis said that Angola upheld the vision of the World Summit on Food Systems, with a view to guaranteeing an equitable, sustainable and healthy future for all.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the minister recalled that the Government of Angola, in collaboration with its partners, has mobilized significant investments for new agricultural programs and projects, aimed at transforming the current food systems into more efficient systems that guarantee greater productivity and improvement of the populations’ quality of life.<\/p>\n

In this context, he highlighted the Plan for the Promotion of Grain Production (PLANAGRAN), the National Plan for the Promotion of Livestock Development (PLANAPECUA\u0301RIA), the National Plan for the Promotion of Fisheries (PLANAPESCA) and the construction of the Cafu Canal are the main examples of the programs aimed at the agricultural and livestock sector.<\/p>\n

He also referred that his sector has been implementing various programs to encourage family farming, without neglecting sectoral programmes, which contribute to increasing national production.<\/p>\n

The CPLP Food and Nutrition Security Council holds debriefings every two years to review and monitor progress in implementing the results of the Food and Nutrition Security Strategy for this community.<\/p>\n
