Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, reaffirmed, this Thursday, in Luanda, the continuous commitment and dedication of the deputies to guarantee the maintenance of peace, the consolidation of the Democratic State of Law, stability and well-being economic and social development of Angolan families.<\/b><\/p>\n

In a message addressed to Angolans as part of the anniversary of the general elections on 24 August 2022, Carolina Cerqueira reaffirms the common commitment to peace, a culture of tolerance and reconciliation, fraternity, unity in diversity and the dignity of the human person, in defense in the best interest of the Angolan people.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this V.a Legislature, we strive to reinforce the exercise of a political activity of great scrutiny and open the doors of the National Assembly to public, political and plural debate, always guaranteeing the participation of all citizens and civil society in general in decision-making processes regarding the destiny of our country\u201d, reads the message.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira also highlights the peaceful way in which Angolans flocked en masse to the polls to exercise their duty of citizenship in favor of the prosperity of the Angolan nation and the strengthening of the Democratic State of Law.<\/p>\n

In his view, it was a process characterized by the exemplary way in which Angolan citizens participated in an active and civic manner, with a high level of responsibility that allowed them to freely choose their political representatives from the democratic institutions of the Angolan State.<\/p>\n

The general elections of August 24, 2022, the fifth since the country became independent, were won by the MPLA, which obtained 51.17%, with a total of 3,209,429 votes. The MPLA elected a majority of 124 deputies to the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

With the results obtained, the head of the MPLA list, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, was also re-elected for a second five-year term.<\/p>\n

UNITA is the second most voted party, with 43.95% and 90 deputies, out of a total of 2,756,786 votes, while the Social Renovation Party (PRS) was the third political force. It collected 1.14% of the votes and elected two deputies.<\/p>\n

In fourth place was the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA), with 1.06% and two seats in the National Assembly. Also with two deputies, but 1.02%, was the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA).<\/p>\n
