Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angola \u2013 Brazil Economic Forum (FEAB), held on Friday (25), which brought together more than 500 businessmen, including Angolans and Brazilians, marks the beginning of the relaunch of the strategic partnership in various areas of cooperation for the two countries, considers the business class.<\/b><\/p>\n

Under the motto \u201cRelaunching the strategic partnership between Angola and Brazil\u201d, the event was part of the first official visit by the Brazilian Head of State, Lula da Silva, to an African country, since his re-election as President of the Federative Republic of Brazil.<\/p>\n

According to the president of the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX), Jorge Viana, the holding of FEAB inaugurates a new phase for the relaunch of socioeconomic cooperation for both countries, opening opportunities for the business class to invest in Angola and vice versa. -versa.<\/p>\n

The interaction between Angolan and Brazilian investors and government officials in that forum served to identify the real solutions that could be adopted so that Angola stops spending, for example, more than two billion US dollars on importing food products from Brazil.<\/p>\n

According to Jorge Viana, the event also served to realize that Angola is one of the few countries in the world with self-sufficiency in electricity, which stands out for an energy matrix turned to renewable energies, a model that many African countries it does not have.<\/p>\n

For the official, this reality, which had Brazil’s contribution in the construction of Angola’s electrical infrastructure, opens up great opportunities for the installation of a true development center in Angola and the export of renewable energies.<\/p>\n

He also pointed out the potential of Angolan mining as another area that Brazilian businessmen could explore for the transformation of fertilizers, which could be used nationally and exported to neighboring countries and to Brazil.<\/p>\n

With these potentialities and business opportunities, the business leader guaranteed to work towards mobilizing Brazilian investors to carry out their projects in Angola, implementing concrete actions that are in line with the country’s economic diversification.<\/p>\n

He classified Angola as \u201cthe most Brazilian country in Africa\u201d and Brazil as \u201cthe most African country in the rest of the world\u201d, due to the bonds of brotherhood and friendship that nourish the two nations over the years.<\/p>\n

For this reason, the president of APEX assured that Brazilian businessmen will fight so that relations between Angola and Brazil, which in recent years have registered a slowdown, do not \u201ccool down\u201d again, recognizing that his country has weakened bilateral cooperation with a country where Brazil \u201cwould never have left\u201d.<\/p>\n

Angola opens doors to \u201caccommodate\u201d investors<\/p>\n

Due to the availability of Brazilian businessmen, the president of the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX) of Angola, Lello Francisco, reiterated that the country has \u201carms open\u201d to receive all types of investment, with the conditions created to accommodate potential investors.<\/p>\n

He invited businessmen to invest in all sectors capable of contributing to the diversification of the national economy, with emphasis on agribusiness, industry and food processing, pharmaceutical industry, health and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

He underlined that the Angolan government is committed to the diversification of the economy and has been working to create the best possible conditions to facilitate the activities of companies and investors that intend to operate in Angola.<\/p>\n

He also recalled that, in the last five years, the Executive implemented a set of measures for the reform of the macroeconomic structure of the country, with emphasis on the improvement of the business environment, tax incentives, simplification and reduction of bureaucracy in public administration services, liberalization of the market exchange rate, among other actions to attract private investment.<\/p>\n

He made it known that, annually, Angola imports food products from Brazil worth around two billion US dollars, with a significant weight for animal protein, chicken, pork, vegetable fats and cereals, products that can be produced locally .<\/p>\n

He added that products from Brazil represent around 5% of the volume of imports from Angola, which also imports equipment for the agricultural sector, in addition to other machinery.<\/p>\n

As a result, he added, the Angolan Government intends to attract Brazilian investors to boost local production, with emphasis on chicken and pork, with partnerships with Angolan companies.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the programs designed by the Angolan Executive for the production of grains on a large scale and animal protein, namely Planagra\u0303o and Planapecua\u0301ria as plans that can benefit a lot from the experience and vast Brazilian knowledge.<\/p>\n

Taking into account the Brazilian agro-industrial potential, the president of AIPEX said that it is possible to learn many lessons to replicate the experience of the economic diversification process of Brazil in Angola, especially in the field of agribusiness.<\/p>\n

With that, the person in charge augured for an increase of Brazilian companies in the Angolan market, as well as the increase of the flow of Angolan products and services in Brazil, in a mutually advantageous two-way relationship.<\/p>\n

Although the volume of investments in Brazil is still incipient, Lello Francisco recognized that Brazilian companies have invested in the country in sectors such as construction, energy, agriculture and various services.<\/p>\n

As for the Angola-Brazil Economic Forum, the official said that the event allowed for the exchange of experiences between the business class of the two countries, as well as the development of synergies for doing business.<\/p>\n

According to the source, the event took place at a particularly challenging time for most countries in the world, due to the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine war.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that this scenario challenges countries to significantly change the global economic and geopolitical order, as well as reorient global trade, affect the availability of energy, reconfigure supply strategies and the fragmentation of international payment networks.<\/p>\n

In this context, he added, South-South (Global South) relations between economies are fundamental, and Brazil can play a leading role in this market.<\/p>\n

During the Forum, participants reflected on the themes \u201cAgriculture and Food Security\u201d, \u201cInfrastructure and Mining\u201d, \u201cHealth, Education and Human Development\u201d and \u201cEnergy Transition\u201d.<\/p>\n

For the start of the relaunch of cooperation between the two countries, the closing act of the Angola-Brazil Economic Forum was marked by the signing of an exchange agreement called “2023\/2025 Action Plan”, framed in the technical cooperation and development of regions irrigated areas and policies to support family farming in southern Angola.<\/p>\n

Specifically, this is the \u201cPrograma do Vale do Cunene\u201d, an initiative whose direct beneficiaries are the population of this semi-desert locality, which will benefit from the experience lived by the population of the Vale de Sa\u0303o Francisco, in Brazil.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Forum’s closing act was also marked by the unveiling of the plaque alluding to the inauguration of the Angola-Brazil Chamber of Commerce (CCAB), carried out by the two Presidents, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o and Lula da Silva, respectively.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s economic potential<\/p>\n

Brazil has the largest economy in Latin America, in addition to being among the 15 largest economies in the world, becoming one of the largest producers and exporters of agricultural products in the last two decades.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian economy has a high level of diversification, with a predominance in the sectors of manufacturing, agribusiness, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, electronics, energy, textiles and services.<\/p>\n

In numerical terms, Brazilian industry represents about 21.4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), accounts for 70.1% of exports of goods and services, 69.2% of business investment in research and development, 33% of tax revenues and 20 .4% of formal employment.<\/p>\n

In less than three decades, Brazil has ceased to be a country that imports food and has become a net exporter, with an agriculture based on the production of grains and animal protein, responsible for successive surpluses in its trade balance.<\/p>\n

Despite this potential, private investment by Brazilian companies in Angola over the last five years was estimated at just around US$10.108 million (one dollar is currently worth 834.9 kwanzas), amounts considered \u201clittle significant\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to data from AIPEX, this investment was made in sectors such as services and civil construction, in the provinces of Luanda, Benguela and Cabinda.<\/p>\n
