Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Eight head of cattle have died and 48 are infected by an unknown plague that plagues the Dombe-Grande region, in the municipality of Bai\u0301a Farta, northern Benguela province.<\/b><\/p>\n

The disease is characterized by the appearance of external and internal pimples in the regions of the mouth and paws, which later cause serious wounds and the animal ends up dying.<\/p>\n

According to the head of the “Kaukumba Santa-Clara” Breeders’ Association, Anto\u0301nio Catchilingo, the region has a cattle herd of around 15,000 head, which are at serious risk of being infected by the disease, as yet unknown.<\/p>\n

The person in charge informed that the plague appeared in the month of May of this year, but so far the disease has not been diagnosed.<\/p>\n

According to Anto\u0301nio Catchilingo, due to lack of information, members risk having an empirical treatment with non-recommended drugs.<\/p>\n

He added that the Association is carrying out a survey to determine the exact number of contaminated cattle, this being the first time that the region has been affected by this type of plague.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Joaquim Neto, breeder, with 250 heads, made it known that in his corral, since the beginning of this disease, five bovines have already died and 44 others are infected, with a higher incidence in calves.<\/p>\n

Armando Muamuana, head of the technical team of veterinarians who visited the Dombe-Grande commune, said that his institution became aware of the situation and promptly sent a team to investigate the reality and take some samples to obtain a real diagnosis.<\/p>\n

According to the veterinary technician, during the interaction he had with the breeders, the team realized that they had not dewormed the animals for over four years, which is why it is suspected that it is a parasitosis.<\/p>\n

Armando Muamuana said that the samples taken are being analyzed in the laboratory to clarify what is going on.<\/p>\n

He also made it known that the technicians, together with the breeders and the local administration, are working to obtain the number of corrals and existing animals.<\/p>\n

For the specialist, parasites can cause some inconvenience to animals and bring these signs or symptoms, because the body has immune defenses.<\/p>\n

The person in charge took the opportunity to appeal to breeders not to slaughter these animals for consumption, while the cattle have not been treated.<\/p>\n
