Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Seventeen years after the historic 1-1 draw, in the last match of the opening phase of the Football World Cup, played in Germany, Angola and Iran face each other again.<\/b><\/p>\n

This third meeting between the counterparts (there was a 0-1 defeat by the national team in February 2011, in a friendly game), will be played on September 12, possibly at the Tundavala stadium, in the province of Hui\u0301la, on a date FIFA.<\/p>\n

Regarding the challenges in history, for the Angolans, the excellent performances of the National Team in the first and only time that it participated in the final phase of a World Cup is clear.<\/p>\n

Angola even lost to Portugal, at the time to giants like Pauleta, Lui\u0301s Figo, Sima\u0303o Sabrosa and the then emerging Cristiano Ronaldo, by 0-1, but it was in the tie against the Iranians that it showed itself better to the world, with a performance crowned with the first goal in such a competition.<\/p>\n

Angola needed to win and wait for Portugal to defeat Mexico, although always dependent on the goal difference (must be greater than two), but despite the Portuguese having beaten the Mexicans by 2-1, Oliveira Gonc\u0327alves’ pupils stayed through the initial phase.<\/p>\n

Portugal won Group D, with nine points, followed by Mexico, with four, Angola, with two, and Iran, which only added one point.<\/p>\n
