Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The province of Huambo will be able to count, next September, on a provincial road accident prevention brigade and its consequences, to be set up by the Local Youth Council (CPJ).<\/b><\/p>\n

The fact was, Thursday, by the executive secretary of CPJ in Huambo, Joa\u0303o Lara Macuva Hotalala, during the 7th provincial meeting of reflection on road accidents in this region of the Central Plateau.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, he added that the same, to be made up of members of the youth associations of this platform, with the creation of nuclei, will be dedicated to raising the awareness of motorists and motorcyclists about the needs of responsible driving on the roads of the province, for the prevention and reduction the high rate of accidents and their consequences that have been registered on the region’s roads.<\/p>\n

The new organisation, according to the official, will act on roads, general and higher education institutions, including districts of the province’s 11 municipalities, in order to disseminate information on traffic rules.<\/p>\n

At the same time, he referred that the brigade will also aim to encourage young people to abstain from excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, drugs and other harmful substances, as other factors influencing road accidents.<\/p>\n

At the same time, he said that the organization will also set up, in September, the security point for young people in Huambo which, in partnership with cultural promoters, will promote songs that call for prevention against road accidents.<\/p>\n

In order to achieve these goals, he made it known that CPJ will count on the support of the provincial nucleus for Combating Road Accidents, a private organization already legally constituted.<\/p>\n

The meeting was marked with the analysis of the topic on the status of road accidents in the province of Huambo and the role that youth and youth leaders should play in changing the situation.<\/p>\n

When discussing the themes, the director of the Institutional Communication and Press office of the Delegation of the Interior in Huambo, Martinho Kavita, referred that since the beginning of the current month, 99 road accidents have been registered, which occurred on the roads of 10 of the 11 municipalities in the province. , with the exception of Ucuma.<\/p>\n

The chief superintendent of the National Police reported that road accidents killed 26 people and injured 99 others.<\/p>\n

He pointed to excessive speed, not giving way, lack of precaution and poor crossings, by pedestrians, as the main causes of accidents characterized, mostly, by pedestrians being run over, with 48 cases out of the 90 registered.<\/p>\n

The 7th provincial meeting to reflect on road accidents in the province of Huambo, which was attended by members of the associations that make up the CPJ and some members of the National Police, aimed to close the days alluding to the International Youth Day, marked on the 12th of current month.<\/p>\n

The Provincial Youth Council in Huambo, a youth platform, controls more than 200 members and partners, including social, political, cultural, sporting and religious organizations and associations.<\/p>\n

With an area of \u200b\u200b35,771 square kilometres, which make up 11 municipalities, 37 communes and 3,387 villages, over two million and 700 thousand inhabitants live in Huambo, Central Plateau of Angola.<\/p>\n

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), on population growth projections, based on the General Population and Housing Census, carried out in 2014, of the total inhabitants of the region, more than one million 300 thousand are young people.<\/p>\n
