Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Republic of Angola expressed, in New York (USA), its interest in maintaining its involvement in issues of peace and security, particularly in Africa, with a view to contributing to the pacification of some points of tension on the continent.<\/b><\/p>\n

Angola’s interest was expressed Wednesday by the Permanent Representative to the UN<\/p>\n

in New York, Francisco Jose\u0301 da Cruz, during a courtesy meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed.<\/p>\n

Ambassador Francisco Jose\u0301 da Cruz recalled that the Angolan President, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, was distinguished by the African Union with the title of Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.<\/p>\n

The Angolan diplomat also expressed the country’s intention to insert national staff into the United Nations system, as well as to<\/p>\n

identify opportunities for appointment to posts related to issues of peace and security.<\/p>\n

On her turn, Amina Mohammed praised Angola’s role in the process of pacifying the tension between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the country’s contribution to matters of peace and security in the continent, based on its experience resulting from the internal solution of the conflict that devastated the country for nearly three decades.<\/p>\n

In this sense, he encouraged the country to continue with its commitment to promote a culture of peace on the continent, through the various initiatives it has carried out.<\/p>\n

Among the initiatives carried out by Angoa, he highlighted the holding of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, taking place from 22 to 24 November, within the scope of the III Edition of the Luanda Biennale.<\/p>\n

The number two of the United Nations took the opportunity to confirm its presence at this event of great importance, at a time when events that jeopardize peace and security are taking place on the continent.<\/p>\n

The two entities also took the opportunity to address the expectations surrounding the High Level week of the 78th Session of the General Assembly, to be held from 18 to 26 September.<\/p>\n

Amina Mohammed is Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.<\/p>\n
