Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The political situation in the central region of Africa, especially in Gabon, was one of the main highlights of the week that ends Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n

For this reason, the Heads of State of Angola, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, and of Congo, Denis Sassou N’Guesso, condemned the seizure of power by force in that country, and called for respect for the physical integrity of President Ali Bongo Odimba, his family and high state entities.<\/p>\n

The position was expressed during a short trip by Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o to Congo, at the invitation of his counterpart, to exchange views on developments related to the unconstitutional change of Government in Gabon.<\/p>\n

The Political Desk also highlighted the recommendation of the President of the Republic to the staff of the External Intelligence Service (SIE) to keep their \u201ceyes open\u201d to everything that is happening in the world, especially in terms of stability and security.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o made this statement when he swore in the new Deputy General Director of the SIE, Teresa Manuel Bento da Silva.<\/p>\n

Another highlight of the week was the transfer of the leadership of the CPLP from Angola to Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe, which took place during the XIV Summit of Heads of State and Government of the organization, held in the Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 capital.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o defended a “functional cooperation” between the Member States of the CPLP, with a view to a better response to the organisation’s expectations.<\/p>\n

At the summit, the Angolan statesman communicated his intention to donate the 30,000 euros of the \u201cJose\u0301 Aparecido de Oliveira Prize\u201d, which was awarded to him by the CPLP, to the Youth Association for the Support of Underprivileged Young People (JUCARENTE).<\/p>\n

During the event, the organization’s reaffirmation of the commitment to achieve economic, social and environmental development in a sustainable and balanced way was also highlighted.<\/p>\n

Throughout the week, the Angolan statesman congratulated the people and Government of Zimbabwe for holding the Harmonized Elections, on the 23rd and 24th of August, destined to choose the President of the Republic, the Parliament and representatives of the Local Governments.<\/p>\n

Another important political piece of news was the announcement of the intention to renew direct air connectivity between Angola and Cape Verde, an agreement to be complemented with that of energy and maritime transport, according to the Cape Verdean ambassador in the country, Ju\u0301lio de Morais, at the end of a meeting with the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the week was also the announcement of the resumption, in October, of the discussion, in the National Assembly, of the proposed amendment to VAT.<\/p>\n

The specialist discussion on the subject is suspended due to lack of consensus on some points of the diploma and the process of consultations at the level of political leaders is underway in order to overcome the impasse.<\/p>\n

Also noteworthy was the approach, in the Council of Ministers, to the proposal for a law on the general regime of public funds, which establishes the legal system applicable to the creation, organization, operation, management, inspection, evaluation and extinction of these institutions.<\/p>\n

The diploma, appreciated at the 7th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers, will be sent to the National Assembly, for due treatment.<\/p>\n

In the same session, the process of granting a tourist visa for Angola was also appreciated, which becomes faster, in an action that aims to boost the sector’s activity and increase revenue collection for the country.<\/p>\n

In the field of Justice, the Constitutional Court (TC) dismissed the “extraordinary appeal of unconstitutionality” against the appointment of Carlos Cavuquila as advisor judge of the Supreme Court (TS).<\/p>\n

In a judgment the TC understands that \u201cthe material assumptions\u201d established for the successive abstract inspection action in the said process are not met.<\/p>\n
