Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Customs Tariff 2022 proposal provides for a 10 percent reduction in taxes on the import of vehicles and electronic equipment, the director of the Customs Services of the General Tax Administration (AGT), Jer\u00f3nimo Cambalangaja, said yesterday in Luanda.<\/b><\/p>\n

The official was speaking on the sidelines of the seminar on “Customs Tariff of the harmonized system (version 2022)”, where he explained that import taxes on a “Lexus” brand vehicle, for example, were set at 30 percent of import duties, but in the new proposal they dropped to 20 percent, while the other cars, which have a rate of 25 percent, went up to 15 percent.<\/p>\n

Jer\u00f3nimo Cambalangaja made it known that public transport of goods and passengers, including buses, mini-buses, cars adapted for the disabled, ambulances, vans, among others, keep their fees free.<\/p>\n

The services director also added that the new tariff brings some incentive to the national productive sector to make the country increasingly dependent on itself.<\/p>\n

“The agenda comes as one of the Executive’s tools to increase national production and society. We have to encourage, but also ensure that the country does not consume everything that is harmful to society”, he stressed.<\/p>\n

He explained that AGT is collecting contributions until the end of March to be able to close the contributions, for later approval by the Council of Ministers. The manager also highlighted that clothing imports were relieved because “we still don’t have a response in clothing production. We also saw that there is a consumption of jewelry and perfumes that the country does not respond to. We had increased taxes and they were relieved”.<\/p>\n

According to the official, the tariff increase varies from zero to 55 percent, and there are 11 basic basket products that are tax-free.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, businessman Carlos Alves suggested that the raw materials to produce and feed the manufacturing industry in Angola, creating jobs, should be analysed, from a support perspective, with the lower tax rate.<\/p>\n

“Everything that is not produced, but is imported, to be later transformed, has a direct impact on the final price in the pocket of the citizen”, he said.<\/p>\n

The seminar on “Customs Tariff of the harmonized system (version 2022)” was promoted by the Special Economic Zone (ZEE), in partnership with AGT.<\/p>\n
