Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>With a history marked by balance, the senior men’s soccer teams from Angola and Madagascar meet for the ninth time, this Thursday (7), in Lubango, Hui\u0301la province, for the sixth and final round of the qualification phase for CAN2023, which will be held next year, in Co\u0302te d \u0301Ivoire. <\/b><\/p>\n

The first confrontation between the two was for the 1992 CAN qualification, in which Angola lost by 0-1, in Luanda, on August 19, 1990, for the 1st round of Group 5, of which Swaziland was still a part. and Zambia.<\/p>\n

Zambia (13 points) and Madagascar (8) managed to qualify, while Angola was in the tail with three, behind Swaziland, which accumulated two more (5).<\/p>\n

In the games between themselves there are six draws and one victory for each side. Of the games, one was a friendly, won by Angola, in Luanda. Five were qualifying for CAN (four draws and one victory for the opponent), two qualifying for CHAN, with one victory for the Angolans and one draw.<\/p>\n

Angola played three times at home and accumulated the three possible results, two qualifying games for CAN, with a defeat and a draw, as well as a qualifying game for CHAN, in which it won.<\/p>\n

Madagascar have hosted Angola five times, three CAN qualifiers and two CHAN qualifiers, all of which resulted in draws.<\/p>\n

Angola’s last victory at home was to qualify for CHAN 2017, by 1-0. In this qualification, the Palancas Negras, in five games, won two, drew twice and lost once, while the Barea, as the Malagasy are called, did not win any victory, drew twice and lost by three.<\/p>\n

Group E is led by Ghana with nine points from five games, followed by Angola with eight, Central African Republic with seven and Madagascar with two.<\/p>\n

Historical portrait of the contenders<\/p>\n

The Angolan national football team, known as the Palancas Negras, is affiliated with FIFA, CAF and COSAFA. On October 8, 2005, it qualified for the World Championship for the first time in its history, which would be played the following year in Germany.<\/p>\n

Its first official game was against Congo on February 8, 1976, and lost 3-2. It qualified for its first CAN in 1996, playing Group A with Egypt, South Africa and Cameroon, losing two games to Egypt and South Africa, but managed a draw (3-3) against Cameroon.<\/p>\n

In 1998 it qualified for its second consecutive CAN, but, again, it failed to reach the quarter-finals, accumulating two draws and a defeat, being 0-0 with South Africa and 3-3 with Namibia and lost 5-2 to Co\u0302te d’Ivoire.<\/p>\n

After a long journey through the desert, he qualified for CAN2006, where he won his first victory, beating Togo 3-2, with two goals from Fla\u0301vio Amado and another from Maurito. That year they drew (0-0) against the DRC and lost 1-3 to Cameroon.<\/p>\n

Angola had its best performance in CAN 2008, in which it was placed in Group D with Tunisia, South Africa and Senegal. Having drawn (1-1 and 0-0) with South Africa and Tunisia and beaten Senegal by 3-1, with two goals from Manucho Gonc\u0327alves, reaching the quarter-finals for the first time, in which they were defeated by Egypt, by 2-1, who would later win the competition.<\/p>\n

Angola also won the COSAFA Cup regional competition in 1999, 2001 and 2004.<\/p>\n

The Malagasy team is also affiliated with FIFA, CAF and COSAFA. He never competed in a World Championship, but had an unprecedented qualification for CAN2019.<\/p>\n

Its first official match was in 1947 against Mauritius, which it won 2-1. Barea’s biggest victory, as it is called, came in 1960, with an 8-1 over Congo. Its biggest defeat was by 7-0 against Mauritius, in 1952, and another 7-0 in favor of the DRC (at the time, Congo – Le\u0301opoldville), in 1965.<\/p>\n
