Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, defended this Tuesday, in Nairobi (Kenya), the promotion of a fairer and more balanced global partnership, within the framework of the challenges of climate change. <\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the African Climate Summit, representing the Angolan Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa said that investments in climate projects in Africa benefit the Member States and contribute to global climate stability.<\/p>\n

At the forum, which brings together several Heads of State and Government of African countries, the Vice-President of the Republic recalled that climate change has caused considerable damage and losses in several States of the cradle continent.<\/p>\n

“Africa has been strongly affected by multiple global shocks”, expressed Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, adding that such occurrences have a negative impact on the implementation of different national programs and on the achievement of sustainable development objectives.<\/p>\n

Angola prioritizes climate<\/p>\n

Within the framework of the international commitments assumed by Angola, the Vice-President of the Republic informed that issues regarding climate change are among the priorities of the Angolan Executive and pointed to the National Development Plan (PDN) 2022\/2027 as an example.<\/p>\n

The aforementioned program defines as a priority family farming, local development, adaptation to climate change, education, health and the further development of human capital.<\/p>\n

The strategy also includes the creation of jobs, modernization and expansion of road and port infrastructures, industrial poles, within the framework of economic diversification and sustainable growth.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa noted that Angola is “fully committed” to the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.<\/p>\n

He stated that in line with the said Convention, the country has been drawing up policies and action programs, such as the National Strategy for Climate Change 2022-2035.<\/p>\n

This is a dossier that aims to respond to the challenges posed by the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal.<\/p>\n

Angola shares initiatives at the Summit<\/p>\n

With the audience present, the Vice-President shared several initiatives linked to the energy transition program and clean renewable energies, underway in the country.<\/p>\n

Esperanc\u0327a da Costa spoke about the solar panel projects being implemented in the country and which are contributing to reducing the impact of carbon dioxide emissions by around 935,000 tons per year.<\/p>\n

The Angolan Government’s commitment is to reach the target of 70 percent renewable sources by 2025.<\/p>\n

“The path that is being followed is long”, stated the Vice-President of the Republic, for whom environmental challenges and sustainable production place Angola in the African alignment.<\/p>\n

Another initiative shared by the Vice-President was the construction of the Canal do Cafu, in the south of the country, an infrastructure budgeted at US$130 million.<\/p>\n

The infrastructure is bringing water to people and livestock affected by the drought, as well as allowing the resumption of agriculture in the region.<\/p>\n

The African Climate Summit aims to identify durable solutions that respond to the continent’s climate-related global challenges.<\/p>\n
