Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Seventy tents to improve the accommodation of National Police personnel in securing the Cafu canal, in the province of Cunene, were delivered, this Wednesday, by the corporation’s general commander, Arnaldo Carlos.<\/b><\/p>\n

With the capacity to accommodate four personnel each, the material will be assembled along the route of the canal, which is approximately 160 kilometers long, aiming for full protection at different points of the infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere infrastructure exists, it is our responsibility to protect these public assets. We are doing this because there are always threats of vandalization\u201d, said the commander, highlighting the importance of the canal, which, in addition to the population, is used by part of the staff to grow vegetables and raise animals, to diversify the diet.<\/p>\n

During his two-day visit to Cunene, Arnaldo Carlos will hold a meeting with members of the corporation’s council, inaugurate the control command center and begin the consultation process for the new Highway Code.<\/p>\n

Cafu Structure<\/p>\n

The Cafu water project is the first of a batch of five by the Angolan Government, created within the framework of the structural actions program to combat drought in that region, with the aim of benefiting 235 thousand people.<\/p>\n

It is valued at 44 billion, 358 million and 360 thousand 651 kwanzas and also allows the watering of 250 thousand animals and the irrigation of five thousand hectares of agricultural fields.<\/p>\n

It consists, among others, of metallic structures of the suction chamber, water intake area, electrical substation building (with three generator sets with a capacity of one megawatt), one-dimensional reservoir, in addition to solar panels capable of generating 1.5 megawatts of energy .<\/p>\n

The project has an open-air channel, covering a length of around 160 km, derived from the Cafu session reservoir, on the Cunene River, and includes 30 chimpacas, 100 meters long, 50 meters wide and five meters deep.<\/p>\n

Its water storage capacity varies from 25 thousand to 30 thousand cubic meters.<\/p>\n

In addition to this project, others are underway in the province, with emphasis on work on the Ndu\u0301e and Calucuve dams.<\/p>\n
