Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The EU-UNCTAD Joint Program for Angola called \u201cTrain for Trade II\u201d will be under analysis in a panel on the Holistic Initiative for Structural Economic Transformation (HPSET), taking place on the 17th of this month, at the Nations Headquarters United, in New York.<\/b><\/p>\n

The subject dominated the meeting, this Friday, between the Permanent Representative of Angola to the UN, Francisco Jose\u0301 da Cruz, and the Head of the Office of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in New York, Juan Jose\u0301 Badillo.<\/p>\n

According to a press release, the head of UNCTAD took the opportunity to invite the Permanent Representative of Angola to participate in the aforementioned panel, which will be dedicated to analyzing the case study on Reducing Angola’s Dependence on Oil.<\/p>\n

This is the first pilot project funded by the European Union since 2018, with the aim of reducing the country’s heavy dependence and addressing low productive capacities, persistent poverty and inequality, focusing on the development of human capital and skills institutional.<\/p>\n

The initiative covers seven fundamental areas, namely commercial diplomacy, cultural and creative industries, entrepreneurship training, identification of products with potential for export and development of their value chain, review and promotion of investment policy, monitoring and facilitation, transport and logistics.<\/p>\n

As a result, it developed the capabilities of 2,800 individuals and 680 institutions, leading to better working methods for modernized and more coherent policies, more diversified economic activities and exports, better trade procedures and increased investment in green sectors and productive capabilities across the economy.<\/p>\n

According to him, the implementation of the program has revealed valuable lessons in terms of development policy about the importance of a holistic and coordinated approach to creating productive capabilities and strengthening institutions and human capital.<\/p>\n

In turn, Ambassador Francisco Jose\u0301 da Cruz thanked the support that UNCTAD has provided to Angola over the years, more specifically in the project in question.<\/p>\n

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is the main UN institution dealing with trade and development. It is a permanent intergovernmental body established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1964.<\/p>\n

It supports developing countries to access the benefits of a globalized economy in a fairer and more efficient way.<\/p>\n
