Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of Cuba, Miguel Di\u0301az-Canel Bermu\u0301dez, urged, this Friday, in Havana, the countries of the G-77+China Group to intensify the fight for their rights, to achieve sustainable development .<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cOnly then will we be able to take our rightful place in this world\u201d, stated the Cuban statesman, in his opening speech at the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the organization, which brings together 134 states, including Angola, represented in the forum by the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n

The Cuban Head of State considered that the change in the current world scenario requires the construction of a fairer, truly democratic and inclusive world, which prioritizes solidarity and international cooperation.<\/p>\n

Miguel Di\u0301az-Canel Bermu\u0301dez defended the mobilization of necessary resources to support countries’ efforts to achieve their development, restricted by centuries of colonialism, exploitation and plunder.<\/p>\n

\u201cChanging the scenario we live in requires the construction of a fairer, truly democratic and inclusive world, which prioritizes solidarity and international cooperation\u201d, he expressed.<\/p>\n

For the Cuban statesman, it is necessary to break the current international barriers that have hindered access to knowledge by developing countries and the use of determining factors for economic and social progress.<\/p>\n

According to Miguel Di\u0301az-Canel Bermu\u0301dez, the organization’s summit takes place at a time when humanity has reached unimaginable technical-scientific potential, with an extraordinary capacity to generate wealth and well-being, in conditions of greater equality, equity and justice.<\/p>\n

Miguel Di\u0301az-Canel also referred to the unfair international economic order and the undemocratic global financial architecture in force, as well as the adverse effects of climate change and environmental degradation.<\/p>\n

He also lamented the fact that geopolitical tensions and conflicts, food and energy insecurity, market volatility and digital exclusion persist.<\/p>\n

In the midst of this complex international scenario, he added, developing countries continue to strive to advance their national development priorities.<\/p>\n

In this sense, the Cuban President considered science, technology and innovation essential tools to accelerate the pace of diversification and economic transformation and increase productivity and competitiveness, to facilitate the full integration of developing countries into the global economy.<\/p>\n

After the official opening ceremony of the event, which focuses on combating poverty in developing countries, several Heads of State or their representatives spoke at the general debate, where they presented their points of view on global sustainable development.<\/p>\n

The Angolan President was the third speaker in the general debate, having defended the G77+China’s access to long-term financing under favorable repayment conditions, so that they can invest in the main infrastructures, with their development.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s program includes interventions by the Head of State of Brazil, Lula da Silva, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Congo, Jean-Claude Gakosso, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Zimbabwe, Frederick Shava, and representatives of international organizations.<\/p>\n

The Summit, which ends on Saturday, is attended by more than 100 Heads of State and Government from the group and has as its theme “Current Development Challenges: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation”, with work sessions spread over two days .<\/p>\n
