{"id":44762,"date":"2023-09-18T14:49:30","date_gmt":"2023-09-18T14:49:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/?p=44762"},"modified":"2023-09-18T14:28:43","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T14:28:43","slug":"life-and-work-of-agostinho-neto-discussed-in-cape-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/life-and-work-of-agostinho-neto-discussed-in-cape-town","title":{"rendered":"Life and work of Agostinho Neto discussed in Cape Town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola. <\/strong><\/span><b>The Consulate General in Cape Town, South Africa, held, this Saturday, a colloquium in reference to September 17th, National Hero&#8217;s Day, which is celebrated this Sunday.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The event was animated by South African university professors Victor Kgomoeswana (University of Mpumalanga) and Justin Pearce (University of Stellenbosch) and Angolan Lui\u0301s Ndala.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press release, on the occasion, the Angolan ambassador to South Africa, Elsa Vicente, highlighted President Neto&#8217;s contribution to the fight for national independence, the liberation of Southern Africa and his legacy for future generations.<\/p>\n<p>The debates were divided into three panels, namely, &#8220;Figure and work of Dr. Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto&#8221;, by Victor Kgomoeswana, &#8220;The influence of the great African Leaders in the relationship between people and the development of the continent&#8221;, by Justin Pearce, and &#8221; Remembering the political legacy of the First President of Angola and National Hero from a youth perspective&#8221;, by Lui\u0301s Ndala.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, the participants concluded that it is necessary to encourage more students to dedicate themselves to studying the History of Angola, as well as valuing and respecting the achievements of national heroes.<\/p>\n<p>They defended the need to instill in young people values \u200b\u200bsuch as patriotism, unity and solidarity, without forgetting &#8220;that the most important thing is to solve the people&#8217;s problems&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto was born in Icolo e Bengo, Luanda, on September 17, 1922 and died in Moscow, Russia, on September 10, 1979.
