Angola. One of the biggest current challenges for the Angolan Government is to guarantee food self-sufficiency, with an increase in national production, to meet the needs of the population.

Speaking at the central event of National Hero’s Day, held in the city of Cuito, Bié province, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca, stated that the Executive will continue to promote this sector, so that it is a means of growth inclusive of the economy.

According to the government official, soil productivity, in general, is still very low, with the exception of cassava, bananas and citrus fruits, as the population uses only 10 percent of the total land with agricultural potential.

Therefore, according to the minister, there is an urgent need to increase cultivated areas, optimize the type of crops and improve productivity.

Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca also explained that family farmers cultivate more than 90 percent of arable land and ensure more than 80 percent of national production, just as agriculture, livestock and forestry represent more than 50 percent of employment in the country .

Therefore, he added, the Executive will continue to work to facilitate access to seeds and fertilizers, as well as create conditions for the flow of production from the fields to consumption centers.

The minister also spoke of the responsibility of provincial governments and, above all, municipal administrations to promote productive inclusion, facilitating access and titled ownership of agricultural land.

According to him, this is a measure that falls within the scope of the administrative deconcentration and decentralization program, which aims to bring services closer to the population and make the municipality the epicenter of governance.

The Minister of Territorial Administration, Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca, took the opportunity to praise the province of Bié, which saw corn production grow from 1.5 to three tons per hectare, from 8 to 12 tons per hectare in the production of reindeer potatoes, from nine to 17 tons per hectare in tomato production and from 10 to 32 tons per hectare in cabbage production.

Country stability is the main factor in mobilizing investment

Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca stated that the stability that the country is experiencing is the main factor in mobilizing direct investment, both foreign and national, which is promoting employment.

Therefore, he defended the continued promotion of good coexistence and a healthy environment in cities, neighborhoods and villages, with observance of the laws and rules defined by the competent entities of the State, respecting the rules of the democratic game.

“Each citizen, wherever they are placed, must carry out their task with zeal, responsibility and professionalism, so that at the end of the day we make Angola a better country.

For this reason, he said, positive acts must continue, such as preserving projects built by the State, avoiding vandalization of public assets, burning and all practices that contribute to the degradation of the environment.

The National Hero’s journey is celebrated under the motto Together for the Development of Angola, which, according to the minister, reflects Agostinho Neto’s vision of cooperation and walking together for Angola’s progress.

For him, Agostinho Neto continues to be a true source of inspiration for Angolans, in facing the country’s current challenges.

“It is to Agostinho Neto and the brave Angolans, some known and others anonymous, who under their leadership fought against colonial oppression, to whom we owe the Angolan Nation, which we must continue to build and develop every day”, he highlighted.

These and other healthy examples will allow us to follow the teachings of the national hero, António Agostinho Neto, of a Nation that must be built and developed by everyone, regardless of their political and ideological convictions or any other nature.

In brief words, the governor of Bié, Pereira Alfredo, praised the Government, for the choice of the province of Bié to host the central event of National Hero’s Day, as well as the unconditional support in the implementation of several projects with social impact, in the district.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, secretaries of State, vice-governors, representatives of political parties, municipal administrators, representatives of the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Foundation, traditional authorities and other guests.

António Agostinho Neto was born in Icolo e Bengo, on September 17, 1922. He died in Moscow on September 10, 1979.

He was an Angolan doctor, writer and politician. In 1975 he proclaimed National Independence and became the first President of Angola until 1979.

angop

For More News And Analysis About Angola Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Angola.
