Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, highlighted this Sunday, in Belgrade, capital of Serbia, the qualities of the founder of the Angolan Nation, Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, within the framework of the celebrations of activities alluding to the 17th of September – Hero’s Day National.<\/b><\/p>\n

At an event, organized by the Angolan embassy in Serbia, the minister highlighted Neto’s qualities – the human and patriotic dimension of the man who guided Angola to independence, proclaimed on November 11, 1975.<\/p>\n

The commemorative activities on the occasion began with the laying of flowers on the bust of the former and first President of Angola, Dr. Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, which brought together more than 150 people, including politicians, students and friends of Angola.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Angolan ambassador to Serbia, Emi\u0301lio de Carvalho Sobrinho, recommended that young people follow Neto’s teachings.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by the ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Serbia, Joseph Kalala Mulamba, the secretary general of the Angolan embassy in Serbia, Jorge Manuel, ambassador of Angola, students, young people and the Angolan community in Serbia.<\/p>\n

South Africa<\/p>\n

In turn, the Consul General of Angola in Cape Town, South Africa, Elsa Caposso Vicente, highlighted yesterday the contribution of President Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto in the fight for the Independence of Angola and the Liberation of Southern Africa.<\/p>\n

The Consul spoke about Neto’s legacy for new generations, as part of September 17th, National Hero’s Day, at a forum held in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

At the event, participants concluded that it was necessary to encourage the new generation to study the History of Angola in depth, valuing and respecting Angolan heroes.<\/p>\n

Still regarding the commemoration of September 17th, the governor of the province of Lunda Sul, Daniel Neto, defended today the need for society to continue to preserve and honor the legacy of the first President of Angola, Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, so that the new generation can know your achievements.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the tribute to Neto, which culminated in the laying of flowers at the bust of the founder of the Angolan nation, the government official said that Agostinho Neto’s political and diplomatic dimension goes beyond the geographical borders of Angola and has a positive impact on the of the African continent, especially in the Southern Region.<\/p>\n

\u201cYoung people should read the works left by Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, who was a promoter of social justice and the unification of the Angolan and African peoples\u201d, said Daniel Neto.<\/p>\n

Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto was born in the village of Kaxicane, municipality of Icolo e Bengo, current province of Luanda, on September 17, 1922 and died on September 10, 1979, in Moscow (Russia).<\/p>\n

As the first President of Angola, he proclaimed the country’s Independence from the then Portuguese colonial rule, on November 11, 1975.<\/p>\n

As a man of culture, Agostinho Neto was a founding member of the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA), an institution of which he was the first president.<\/p>\n

He has published, among other works, \u201cQuatro Poems de Agostinho Neto\u201d, \u201cPoemas\u201d, \u201cSagrada Esperanc\u0327a\u201d and \u201cA Renu\u0301ncia Impossi\u0301vel\u201d.<\/p>\n
