Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola qualified 20 athletes for the Mixed Martial Arts World Championship (MMA), to be held from 20 to 25 November, in Albania.<\/b><\/p>\n

Of the 39 members of the national team, distributed across various categories, at the African Championship, which ended this Sunday, at the Kilamba Multiu\u0301sos pavilion, in Luanda, with Angola’s victory, 20 qualified for the world cup.<\/p>\n

In the balance of the continental event, where the hosts obtained 18 gold, 14 silver and seven bronze medals, the president of the federation told that it was a challenge to create conditions for Angola to be present with this number of athletes.<\/p>\n

Armando Diogo said that the World Championship has always been his squad’s priority, after, obviously, the African one, but that the prospect was never to qualify more than ten athletes.<\/p>\n

He recalled that in the last edition of the world competition, held in 2021, in Serbia, Angola participated with six representatives, obtaining sixth position in the general classification.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, Maurio Silva won a gold medal in the men’s category, in the 61kg category, while Daniela Mandanji won a bronze medal in the women’s category.<\/p>\n

Regarding the continental event, Armando Diogo considers it to have been positive due to the level of organization and quality of the infrastructures of both the event stage and hotels, in addition to other inherent conditions made available to the delegations.<\/p>\n

The African event had the participation of five countries, Angola (with 39 athletes), Democratic Republic of Congo (seven), Mauritania (two), Namibia (three) and Algeria (one).<\/p>\n

Morocco, due to the recent earthquake that shook the country, Tunisia and Egypt, who withdrew out of solidarity, Zambia and South Africa, due to transport problems, the latter dethroned champion, were not part of the event.<\/p>\n

The competition was witnessed by the President of the International MMA Federation, Kerrith Brown, the President of the African Confederation, AvinashRamtohul, and other members of the respective organizations.<\/p>\n

At the closing ceremony, the Secretary of State for Sports, Teresa Ulundo, praised Angola’s performance, culminating in winning the title.<\/p>\n

He said that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to play its role in ensuring that athletes have good conditions to defend the title in 2024, in Namibia.<\/p>\n

Regarding the organization, the person responsible considers it to have been positive, because complete security was provided to the participants, and, for her, Angola demonstrated, once again, its ability to carry out events of a high level of difficulty.<\/p>\n
