Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Forgotten in time, former basketball player A\u0302ngelo Victoriano calls for greater recognition from legal entities and society, after 17 years of successive achievements in clubs and national teams.<\/b><\/p>\n

The former center forward, born in the province of Luanda, in 1968 (55 years old), started in 1982, at the age of 14, in unofficial competitions and two years later (16) he joined Petro de Luanda.<\/p>\n

It was at the service of the “tricolores” that he paved the way for a promising career, which ended up being first well recognized (against nature) by the International Association of Basketball Federation (FIBA).<\/p>\n

In fact, it was through the world governing body that the Angolan benefited from the best recognition to date, when he became part of the restricted list of \u201clegends\u201d whose names are written in the FIBA-Mundo \u201cHall of Fame\u201d.<\/p>\n

The event took place after the conclusion of the entity’s Congress, on August 23, in Manila (Philippines), before the World Championship, where the National Team failed to qualify directly for the \u201cParis`2024\u201d Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

The older brother of three basketball players, Justino Victoriano \u201cPuna\u201d and Edmar Victoriano \u201cBaduna\u201d (all former stars) was enshrined in a list that included, among others, Penny Taylor (Australia), Katrina McClain (USA), Amaya Valdemoro (Spain), Wlamir Marques (Brazil) and Yao Ming (China).<\/p>\n

The second Angolan athlete to be included in the Hall of Fame, after Jean Jacques, in 2013, was received on the 15th by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, at the Gallery located in Cidadela, in a ceremony led by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Dalva Ringote .<\/p>\n

On the occasion, A\u0302ngelo Victoriano, eight-time African champion for the National Team (1989, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005), was pleased with the MINJUD initiative, but hopes that doors will be opened that will catapult him to a change of life, proportional to your achievements.<\/p>\n

In an interview, on the sidelines of the activity, the former Petro de Luanda and 1.\u00b0 de Agosto player lamented the fact that he wanted to own a residence as a reminder of his contribution to national sport, in addition to other benefits.<\/p>\n

He said he belongs to a generation of players who dedicated themselves and gave everything to the advancement of the sport and sport in general, but who were never properly rewarded.<\/p>\n

He indicated that he played in a different context and with much more difficulties than today, sacrificing youth in favor of Angola’s objectives, but that in terms of compensation and recognition little was done, compared to the current moment.<\/p>\n

Without a job or any secure means of support, the icon, who spent eight years ill, stressed that he does not have a life that guarantees him a regular salary and that, sometimes, he has to “go to great lengths” to feed his family.<\/p>\n

Asked if he had ever received support, the former captain of the “national five” replied peremptorily that he had not, adding that he, and like others in his condition, should benefit from a monthly income policy.<\/p>\n

Off the court, he was assistant coach of 1.o de Agosto and the National Team with which he was African champion in Libya in 2009, with Portuguese Lui\u0301s Magalha\u0303es as boss.<\/p>\n

In 2014 he was invited by the Government of the province of Malanje to develop a massification project that did not succeed.<\/p>\n

According to the interlocutor, it was the biggest disappointment of his life in social terms, having remained in Malanje for three years without due respect, without a home or salary.<\/p>\n

“They never received me and I never felt as bad as in Malanje. I scheduled audiences with the governor, but I was never received”, he lamented.<\/p>\n

He stated that as a player for 1.o de Agosto and Petro de Luanda, like others, he was always deducted by Social Security, but that he currently does not benefit from a post-work pension, explaining that it was an issue that he could not prove since at the time There was no such culture.<\/p>\n

For him, the Association of Olympic Athletes of Angola, where he is a member, can be a way to value former practitioners by advocating for integration into massification projects because there is sports training and there is talent.<\/p>\n

Reliable, hard-working and inspiring, his voice can always be heard in the locker room at difficult times during seasons or tournaments, helping his teammates get through tough times and stay focused.<\/p>\n

Although Angola lost, A\u0302ngelo played against the US \u201cDream Team\u201d in the 1992 Olympics, meaning he competed against the greatest team of all time, which included stars such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and other legendary sports figures. .<\/p>\n

In his famous club career, he played for Petro Atle\u0301tico de Luanda (1982-1992), Queluz de Portugal (1992-1993), Barreirense de Portugal (1993-1995), Petro Atle\u0301tico de Luanda (1995-1996), ASA (1996-1997) and 1.o de Agosto (1997-2006).<\/p>\n

He became national champion on ten occasions, eight times winner of the Angolan Cup, eight times winner of the Angolan Super Cup, two-time winner of the African Clubs Cup and champion of the Portuguese League II Division in 1993.<\/p>\n
