Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The provincial governor of Cuando Cubango, Jose\u0301 Martins, requested this Tuesday, in Menongue, greater publicity of the draft Road Code Revision Law, by staff from the National Directorate of Roads and Traffic (DNVT).<\/b><\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Martins, who spoke at the opening of the provincial act of public consultation on the Road Code Revision Bill, considered it essential that the document be disseminated to drivers, to raise citizens’ awareness about the precautions to be taken on the road, aiming to reduce road accidents.<\/p>\n

The government official recalled that the mortality rate on the roads leads to a reflection on the need to change the situation, with the involvement of all structuring sectors of society, so that it is possible, in the medium and long term, to overcome this scourge.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is expected, with this act, to clarify the legal and technical conditions, adapt the future diploma to measures that contribute to the reduction of road accidents and the consequent education of public road users\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n

He recalled that provincial governments are advised to work on changing speed limit signs, which includes the proposal to make it mandatory to attend a driving course for drivers who work as taxis, due to the complexity of transporting people.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Martins encouraged the members of the provincial road and traffic planning council to work with technology to provide social justice among citizens, who are so eager to see the issue of adequate traffic that conforms to the well-being of all citizens.<\/p>\n

For his part, the head of the Vehicle Registration, Cadastre and Census section of the local council, Carlos Massoxi, said that the change in the road code will allow the State to adapt to its wishes and reinforce the legal protection of citizens on public roads.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, issues of blood alcohol content were discussed, the requirement for a high school certificate to obtain a driving license, the speed limit in localities, which drops from 60 to 45 kilometers\/hour, as well as the prohibition passenger transport in goods vehicles.<\/p>\n

Issues such as requirements for obtaining a driving license by foreign citizens and the unification of property title and registration into a single document also generated debates among those present.<\/p>\n

The proposed law to amend the highway code contains 182 articles, different from the current code, which has 178.<\/p>\n

The meeting, which took place in the amphitheater at the government headquarters, was attended by officers from the National Police, jurists, traditional authorities, teachers, motorists, motorcycle taxi drivers, among other guests.<\/p>\n
